Nervous about attending an open call? Below are a few tips and tricks to rock a casting call with confidence…

  1. Dress Appropriately

A casting call is not a fashion show. Casting directors and scouts want to see you, not the clothes you are wearing. Attire should be simple, form fitting, and consist of solid colors that are complimentary to your eye and/or skin color. For example, if you have blue eyes wear a blue top. Comfortable shoes are best; heels are fine for females 14 and up as long as you can walk normally in them. Makeup should look natural and hair kept out of the face. Jewelry and accessories should be kept to a minimum, if not left at home entirely. Again (we can’t stress this enough) YOU should stand out, not your wardrobe/hair/makeup.

  1. Read and follow directions

While modeling can be fun and glamorous, it is also a job. Show that you are a true professional by thoroughly reading everything given to you, listening carefully to what you are told, and following directions to a tee. If you have questions, ask!

  1. Have fun!

This is probably the most important tip. casting directors want to see your personality so have fun with it! This means smile, engage, and work that camera. Practice your poses, facial expressions (including the Tyra “smize”), and introductions at home in front of the mirror first. It is also important to be cordial to everyone you come into contact with at the casting…from the scouts to fellow models to the person checking you in. A smile and courteous, positive attitude never goes unnoticed.

BONUS TIP: Parents attending with children, allow them to stand out on their own! Scouts are looking at you too when they audition your child and take your behavior and interactions into consideration. Many times a young potential model has been passed on because of a parents inappropriate actions. Let your child have the spotlight while you serve as their sideline supporter.

We look forward to seeing all potential Faces and remember, if you can’t attend a casting you can still submit via e-mail! To enter the Face of Foothills 2016 Model Search contest click here.
