Spanning two stories and 12,000 square feet, the Louis Sands IV Center brings the museum’s total size to 55,000 square feet, enhancing the visitor experience with expanded galleries and immersive storytelling. The addition introduces four new exhibitions that offer a richer perspective on Western and Indigenous art, blending tradition with contemporary voices in a thoughtfully curated environment.

“Western Spirit Museum is a Scottsdale gem, a landmark and a point of pride for the ‘West’s Most Western’ town. This new 12,000-square-foot addition will ensure the stories of the West are shared with future generations for many years to come,” said Mayor Lisa Borowsky.

The expansion arrives with a sense of celebration and invitation, reflecting the museum’s theme, “Unmistakably West.” It’s a call to experience the region as it truly is: authentic, powerful, and unforgettable. From interactive programming to live demonstrations and engaging gallery talks, the museum is creating an environment where history and artistry come alive.

Inside, visitors are welcomed into a series of exhibitions that explore the West through material, form, and cultural expression. On the main gallery level, three interconnected showcases highlight the enduring impact of three-dimensional art.

“Visions in Bronze” examines how sculptors have shaped enduring myths of the frontier, while “From Earth to the Stars” traces the evolution of American Indian jewelry, revealing intricate connections between land, materials, and identity. “Fire of Ages” spans centuries of ceramic traditions, illuminating the artistry and innovation of Southwestern potters.

“Working Pardners: Masterworks from the Eddie Basha Collection” offers a glimpse into one of the most significant private collections of Western American and American Indian art. Featuring works that span paintings, sculpture, and works on paper, the exhibition highlights the relationships and collaborations that shape artistic communities.

Throughout the museum, the experience is designed to be immersive and engaging for all ages. Visitors can encounter live artist demonstrations, explore the outdoor Sculpture Garden, or participate in guided talks that provide deeper insight into the collections.

Younger guests are encouraged to engage through interactive activities that make discovery both fun and meaningful. Together, these exhibitions feature masterworks by artists including Remington, Russell, Preston Monogye, Charles Loloma, the Nampeyo family, and many others, offering a sweeping view of how material, culture, and creativity have defined the art of the West.

Ultimately, the expansion is a reimagining of how Western stories are told and experienced. By bringing together diverse artistic traditions and voices under one roof, Western Spirit is creating a space that honors the past while inspiring future generations. Learn more at westernspirit.org.
