Downtown Tempe Authority (DTA) is fueling community spirit with its Summer of Local Love campaign–an initiative designed to uplift and celebrate the more than 160 businesses that make Downtown Tempe unique, especially as they navigate the challenges of triple-digit heat and ongoing construction.
The heart of the campaign lies in the REEL Love social media contest, enticing participants to share their favorite aspects of Downtown Tempe: from hidden gems like Lotions & Potions to mouthwatering delights at Sexy Burger, each submission tagged @downtowntempe on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok qualifies for a chance to win one of four $250 gift cards redeemable at local businesses.
“Even in the heat and through the construction, our local businesses are showing up every day with heart, hustle and resiliency,” DTA President and CEO Lori Foster said. “As Downtown Tempe evolves and consumer habits shift, one thing remains constant — the power of community support. Choosing to shop local keeps our district vibrant, resilient and ready for what’s next.”
REEL Love winners will be selected bi-weekly until August 31. Downtown Tempe boasts an array of offerings, including rooftop bars, fine dining experiences, and locally crafted goods, with recent additions enhancing its allure. Since 2024, 23 new businesses have joined the district, underscoring its growth and appeal to both locals and visitors seeking unique experiences.
Bethany Kennedy, Director of Marketing and Communications at DTA, emphasized the campaign’s goal to foster community support and exploration: “From finding the best burger to checking out a new spot, or even where to find the best parking using the new Tempe TRiP tool, we’re here to help. This summer, we’re spreading the word that it’s easy to visit and support our amazing local businesses.”
To facilitate engagement, the DTA website now features an enhanced interface offering comprehensive business directories, day trip recommendations, and insights into indoor activities. This resource complements the campaign’s mission to promote engagement and accessibility, showcasing Downtown Tempe as a destination where every moment holds promise for adventure and discovery.
