Inspired by the movement of the Adriatic Sea, ONDA brings an almost fluid quality through textured fused-glass surfaces featured on a kitchen island and coordinating sideboard. The softly rippled surfaces catch and reflect light, creating warmth while maintaining a sophisticated feel.
“What we love about this project is realizing the dream which designers and artists had for a long time: to recreate the subtle beauty of nature,” said Patrik Schumacher, principal at Zaha Hadid Architects.
“ONDA is the kind of collection that makes people stop and look twice,” Owner Bobby Banica said. “It has this beautiful sense of movement, but it is also designed to be lived with. It is not art sitting in the corner of a room. It is a functional part of the home that changes the way a space feels.”
As kitchens continue to open into dining and living spaces, islands and cabinetry have taken on a larger role in the design of the home. They can serve as anchors that help define the character of a room.
ONDA’s freestanding island is available in lengths ranging from approximately 71 to 142 inches and features an aluminum frame in black or champagne surrounding back-painted, metallic-effect glass doors. Finish options include Metal Onda, Metal Bronze Onda, Metal Champagne Onda and Metal Iridio Onda. It can be customized with a cooktop, integrated hood, sink, drawers and pull-out storage, allowing homeowners and designers to tailor the configuration to the way the space will actually be used.
A variety of worktops, side panels and base finishes allow ONDA to be integrated into a design scheme. The collection gives designers the flexibility to coordinate materials, finishes and proportions throughout the home. Glass is one of the defining elements.
