Backstage Beauty at Altuzarra & Alexander Wang

New York Fashion Week is just as much about beauty as it is the clothes and accessories. Take notes for spring from Joseph Altuzarra and Alexander Wang, which both featured minimal makeup and slicked-back hair for a natural look that highlights spring’s bold and flirty silhouettes.

Carefree romance swept the runway look of Joseph Altuzarra’s spring 2015 show. Collection notes referenced the 1968 film Rosemary’s Baby and French actress Catherine Deneuve as the designer’s inspirations, so makeup artist Tom Pecheux masked the models’ faces with a satin finish and outlined lips with Deneuve’s favorite lipstick shade, MAC’s Spring Sensation.

The hair was French romance at its finest. Hairstylist Odile Gilbert swept back models’ hair into slicked-back chignons that were folded into a sculptural heart shape just above the nape of the neck.

Meanwhile, models at Alexander Wang spring 2015 rocked sporty ponytails and paired-down eyebrows. Wang cemented the athletic wear trend with his sneakerhead-inspired collection of mesh prints and neon bodycon dresses that were culled from the sporty design aesthetics of Stan Smiths, New Balences and Jordans.

Models’ brows were lightened to match their skin tones for a washed-out look that gave total focus on the clothes. Makeup artist Diane Kendal swiped cheeks with NARS Matte Multiples and applied a glint of shimmering gold eye shadow on just the lids that was reminiscent of a post-workout glow. Hairstylist Guido Palau structured what would otherwise be an ordinary look to be a mix of high-gloss low ponytails situated at the nape of the neck.
