Cave + Post Trading Co. Gentleman’s Mercantile and Makerspace Opens in Uptown Phoenix

On June 18, Patrick and Mary Burch’s dream of opening a menswear store became reality when they opened the doors to their new space, Cave + Post Trading Co., located at 1040 E. Indian School Road, next door to Tacos Chiwas. The new venture is a family affair run by the husband-and-wife team with support from their five kids, ages 14 – 24.

We chose the name Cave + Post, because the location has two distinct spaces. The building in the front is the trading post, or “Post” — a boutique with a curated collection of high-end menswear lines and accessories as well as hand picked, affordable vintage finds.

Out back, we have a courtyard area that leads to an artisan workshop, or makerspace – the “Cave” – that we’ve outfitted to accommodate a variety of skilled trades. It was the hunt for a workshop space, for our son to practice his welding craft, that led us to this property!”

A limited number of artisans will use the makerspace and equipment in exchange for teaching classes that will be open to the community. Those interested in exploring makerspace opportunities should contact Cave + Post.

Within the rooms of the charming house-turned-boutique, Cave + Post carries popular apparel brands like Freenote Cloth, Howler Brothers, Texas Standard, Taylor Stitch, Naked and Famous, and Rhythm, plus a great selection of vintage items. With a focus on American-made goods, the shop also offers accessory lines including Shinola watches and leather goods, and sunglasses from AO Eyewear. A curated selection of vintage clothing and jewelry, plus lifestyle and personal care products are also artfully displayed throughout the Western-themed space.

A separate music room showcases a collection of guitars that can be tried before purchase. This is the second retail venture from Patrick and Mary, who owned and operated a high end children’s boutique, called Raph Infant and Child, from 2005-2008.

Our customers want to find the best clothing, accessories, and lifestyle goods, enjoy the shopping experience, and not have to spend hours browsing online or combing the malls.

Whether guys are looking to refresh their summer wardrobe, or stylish Phoenicians are looking for unique gifts, home goods, or just something fun and special, we’ve got them covered!

This fall, Cave + Post will officially celebrate with a grand opening celebration and a calendar of community events. Future happenings include live music events in the courtyard and monthly Makerspace classes for the public with instruction in welding, woodworking, blacksmithing, leatherworking, and more.
