The Wigwam Awarded Best Historic Resort in the U.S.

Known for its stunning arid landscape and southwestern charm, The Wigwam resort located in Litchfield Park ranks as the best historic resort in the U.S. according to Historic Hotels of America. With over a century’s worth of rich history, The Wigwam continues to provide the best of luxury and comfort to guests from around the world.

The Wigwam, which officially opened its doors in 1929, originated as a place to stay for the executives of the Ohio-based Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. The executives of the tire company sought out the West Valley in Phoenix because it was a prime location to grow cotton for rubber production. Cotton played a key role in the production of tires because the fibers are used to strengthen the overall structure.

The once-small lodge created during the rise of cotton ranching is now a thriving resort fit for today’s travelers. The Wigwam is full of recreational activities and amenities spread across 440 lush acres of land. Today, the world-class resort features 331 spacious adobe-style casitas and suites, three swimming pools, abundant indoor and outdoor event space, a luxury spa, signature restaurants and more.

Not to mention, staying at The Wigwam is any golf lover’s paradise. The Wigwam is known for having one of the best Phoenix golf courses in the Valley. The course includes three championship courses including 54 holes of challenging golf.

“The team at The Wigwam has beautifully captured the history of the resort in a way that inspires today’s modern travelers and we are grateful for this recognition by Historic Hotels of America,” says Greg Champion, the president and COO of Benchmark, Pyramid Luxury & Lifestyle.

In addition to winning the title of the best historic hotel in the U.S., The Wigwam was recognized for the 2022 Awards of Excellence as a resort that best celebrates its history through providing exceptional hospitality and service to elevate the guest experience.
