Filled with fun challenges, this scavenger hunt honored the birthday boy’s favorite food, mushrooms, and, of course, embarrassed all of his favorite friends.
Imaginative Invite
Following the party’s treasure hunt theme, the invitation was a map, created by The Paper Place. If a professional invitation is not in your budget, it is just as easy to copy a map and add some small but significant detail that gives a hint of the theme. For our invite, it was the small mushroom under the magnifying glass. The invite read, “Here, there and all around the town a treasure hunt is going down for Riley’s 14th birthday. Stretch your sleuthing powers while we search for clues. Be prepared for a pit stop to fuel on Riley’s favorite birthday food and be the eagle-eye who finds the prize.”
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED
After being “styled” silly with makeup and skirts by their little sisters, the birthday guests were off for the party’s main event: a scavenger hunt.
Learn to shop for the lady in your life. After specifying a size, color and detail they needed to find, the party guests were sent to Victoria’s Secret to buy underwear. This initiated some giggles and immediate embarrassment.
Get in touch with your feminine side. A mushroom-theme manicure was the perfect accessory.
Show appreciation for a Starbucks barista. The boys were asked to serenade local baristas. We chose a fun and current song, “I’m Sexy and I Know It.”
Display your eating skills. In honor of our birthday boy, Stone & Vine Urban Italian created the ultimate in kid cuisine: an ice cream sundae. This sundae included mushrooms, of course, anchovies and balsamic vinaigrette creatively disguised as hot fudge.
Must Love Mushrooms
The birthday cake and favor were designed by Tammie Coe Cakes and were perfect replications of the red-and-white spotted mushroom which was the inspiration for the party.
