If you have yet to experience The Heard Museum\u2019s free third Friday evening series, NU (Native + You), now is your chance! On January 15 from 5:30 to 9 p.m., the series will mix opera with art, to create an incredible Friday evening. Guests can attend a panel discussion with several well-respected contemporary artists, experience an operatic performance and a meet and greet with artist Steven Yazzie. With free admission to the event and museum, why pass up this fabulous evening of art?<\/p>\n

In partnership with the Arizona Opera, the multi-faceted artist and Lyric Soprano Jennifer Stevens, Oneida\/Lakota, will perform at 8 p.m. in the Crossroads Gallery. Stevens is known for her talents in both the performing and visual arts. She will sing her own original compositions and has performed as a soloist with the Green Bay Civic Symphony and at the Native American Music Awards, among others. Her performance will encompass a dynamic mix of genres. Don\u2019t miss out!<\/p>\n

\"jennifer-stevens\"Jennifer Stevens<\/em><\/p>\n

At 6 p.m. Sara Cochran, curator of modern and contemporary art at the Phoenix Art Museum, will moderate a special panel discussion on contemporary sculpture entitled “Changing Direction: A Conversation on Transitions + Influences in the Now”. Panelists include artists Bob Haozous (son of Allan Houser) and Nora Naranjo Morse.<\/p>\n

The Berlin will open a new show, Telling Stories, highlighting the striking and popular work of local favorite Steven Yazzie, Navajo\/Laguna Pueblo, and new Berlin artist Julie Buffalohead, Ponca. Both artists incorporate irony into their works and tell stories in a provocative way. From 6 to 8 p.m. patrons can see the new show and meet artist Steven Yazzie in the Berlin Gallery.<\/p>\n

From 5:30 to 9 p.m., visitors can enjoy the museum, tours, lounge and a no host bar. The Caf\u00e9 will offer seating for dinner until 8 p.m. Patrons can browse in the Shop and Berlin Gallery until 8 p.m.<\/p>\n

Admission to NU and the museum during 3rd Friday evening is free. NU is presented by JP Morgan Chase and Carol Ann and Harvey Mackay. Additional support comes from the Arizona Opera as well as the following organizations: Arizona Humanities Council, IKEA, Local First Arizona and the Phoenix Arts & Business Council.<\/p>\n
