Uptown Plaza<\/a>, one of Phoenix\u2019s most iconic landmarks, invites the community to step back in time and join the celebration of its 70th anniversary on September 27<\/strong> from 5-8:30 PM. With a theme of \u201cparty like it\u2019s 1955,\u201d the event blends mid-century charm with modern spirit, welcoming residents and visitors to commemorate seven decades of connection, culture, and commerce in Uptown Phoenix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening promises a nostalgic experience complete with live music, giveaways, vintage d\u00e9cor, and interactive activations that pay homage to the Plaza\u2019s 1950s roots. Guests can explore the grounds of this storied shopping center, which underwent a major restoration in 2016 to preserve its signature mid-century modern architecture while making room for a curated mix of local and national tenants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the special experiences planned for the evening, the first 250 guests to check in at the vintage-themed 70th anniversary Welcome Booth will receive a limited-edition commemorative pin that unlocks access to exclusive \u201c1955 pricing\u201d specials at participating businesses throughout the center. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visitors can enjoy throwback-priced ShackBurgers and Fries from Shake Shack<\/a>, $7 pints and pet-friendly patio access at Dynamite Beer Co.<\/a>, and complimentary scoops of Salt & Straw<\/a> ice cream, which is set to open at the plaza in fall 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening begins with a community yoga session in the Courtyard, hosted by Sweatshop on Central<\/a>, a locally owned studio that originally opened at Uptown Plaza. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Live music from local rockabilly band The Joeys will bring the sounds of the 1950s to life. Guests can also capture memories at themed photo ops featuring a vintage Volkswagen Photo Booth Van, enjoy retro games, and shop exclusive merch and giveaways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uptown Plaza first opened its doors in 1955 and was the brainchild of legendary Arizona developer Del Webb. It was home to beloved businesses such as Helsing\u2019s Coffee Shop, Jerand\u2019s of Arizona, and Piggly Wiggly – names that still resonate with longtime Phoenicians.<\/p>\n\n\n

In the decades since, Uptown Plaza has remained an evolving hub of activity. The restoration of the property in 2016 ensured the preservation of its iconic architecture while reinvigorating the space with modern appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In celebration of its 70th Anniversary, Uptown Plaza has unveiled several new upgrades that honor the past and look toward the future. A newly installed courtyard clock tower now complements the vintage-style pillars from the 2016 restoration.
