According to Robert\u00a0Davis, Ph.D., author of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.coffeeisgoodforyoubook.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Coffee Is Good For You<\/a>,\u00a0\u00a0a lot of our classic Thanksgiving nutrition advice is steeped in misinformation. But the truth is, according to\u00a0Davis, other foods, such as cheese, eggs and other kinds of meat, contain just as much if not more of the amino acid.\u00a0The most likely culprit for the sleepiness is the amount of carbs (and alcohol) we consume at Thanksgiving dinner, he says.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Myth: <\/strong><em>A multigrain roll is the healthier option [than white bread].<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/valleygirlblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screen-Shot-2012-11-19-at-4.16.52-PM.png\"><img  loading=\"lazy\"  decoding=\"async\"  class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13076 pk-lqip pk-lazyload\"  title=\"Screen Shot 2012-11-19 at 4.16.52 PM\"  src=\"https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/valleygirlblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/25003458\/Screen-Shot-2012-11-19-at-4.16.52-PM-80x46.jpg\"  alt=\"\"  width=\"545\"  height=\"315\"  data-pk-sizes=\"auto\"  data-pk-src=\"http:\/\/www.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/valleygirlblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screen-Shot-2012-11-19-at-4.16.52-PM.png\" ><\/a><\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Truth:<\/strong> Just because it\u2019s a brown roll doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s healthy. Davis explains that \u201cmultigrain\u201d just means that there are multiple grains, which could potentially include a variety of refined grains (the white kind) and none of the heart-healthy whole grains. \u201cMultigrain rolls might not be any better than white enriched rolls,\u201d Davis says.\u00a0When shopping for your Thanksgiving feast, Davis says the first word on the ingredient list should be \u201cwhole.\u201d Look for labeling that says whole grain or whole wheat \u2014 but not \u201cmade with whole grain,\u201d which could still leave room for refined grains.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Myth:<\/strong> <em>Choose sweet potatoes over white.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/valleygirlblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screen-Shot-2012-11-19-at-4.16.15-PM.png\"><img  loading=\"lazy\"  decoding=\"async\"  class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13075 pk-lqip pk-lazyload\"  title=\"Screen Shot 2012-11-19 at 4.16.15 PM\"  src=\"https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/valleygirlblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/25003455\/Screen-Shot-2012-11-19-at-4.16.15-PM-80x53.jpg\"  alt=\"\"  width=\"553\"  height=\"366\"  data-pk-sizes=\"auto\"  data-pk-src=\"http:\/\/www.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/valleygirlblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screen-Shot-2012-11-19-at-4.16.15-PM.png\" ><\/a><\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Truth:<\/strong> Nutritionally,\u00a0sweet potatoes win, boasting more fiber and vitamins A and C than their white counterparts. But preparation matters: two scoops of sugary, candied sweet potatoes are not the nutritional equal of a plain, baked white potato.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Myth:<\/strong> <em>Dark meat is unhealthy.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/valleygirlblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screen-Shot-2012-11-19-at-4.19.11-PM.png\"><img  loading=\"lazy\"  decoding=\"async\"  class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13077 pk-lqip pk-lazyload\"  title=\"Screen Shot 2012-11-19 at 4.19.11 PM\"  src=\"https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/valleygirlblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/25003501\/Screen-Shot-2012-11-19-at-4.19.11-PM-80x54.jpg\"  alt=\"\"  width=\"546\"  height=\"367\"  data-pk-sizes=\"auto\"  data-pk-src=\"http:\/\/www.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/valleygirlblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screen-Shot-2012-11-19-at-4.19.11-PM.png\" ><\/a><\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Truth: \u00a0<\/strong>Technically, white meat is the healthier option \u2014 with about 158 calories and 0.5 g of saturated fat per four-ounce serving, according to Davis \u2014 however, dark meat isn\u2019t necessarily\u00a0<em>unhealthy<\/em>, especially compared to other types of meat, such as red. At 183 calories and 1.6 g of saturated fat per serving (without skin), you can satisfy your craving. Slow down, enjoy each bite and focus on portion sizes.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Myth:<\/strong> <em>Pop-up timers are a good judge of when the turkey is done.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/valleygirlblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screen-Shot-2012-11-19-at-4.24.38-PM.png\"><img  loading=\"lazy\"  decoding=\"async\"  class=\"aligncenter also use a conventional food thermometer, placing it in the innermost part of the wing and thigh and thickest part of the breast to ensure that the turkey is cooked to at least 165 degrees F all over,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Myth:<\/strong> <em>Red wine is the only healthy wine to toast with.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/valleygirlblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screen-Shot-2012-11-19-at-4.25.56-PM.png\"><img  loading=\"lazy\"  decoding=\"async\"  class=\"aligncenter \u00a0<\/strong>Truth is that other forms of alcohol, including white wine and liquor, are also associated with a lower risk of heart disease, Davis says: \u201cScientists haven\u2019t shown that drinking red wine is better than other forms of alcohol in these long term cohort studies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Myth:<\/strong> <em>Canned pumpkin isn\u2019t as healthy as fresh.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/valleygirlblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screen-Shot-2012-11-19-at-4.27.10-PM.png\"><img  loading=\"lazy\"  decoding=\"async\"  class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13082 pk-lqip pk-lazyload\"  title=\"Screen Shot 2012-11-19 at 4.27.10 PM\"
