Well, my husband, sister and some friends headed to New York for a fabulous, food-filled week. We made no reservations, no definite plans for what each day held (as far as dining was concerned), and were on a budget. And I must say, that is\u00a0quite a risky way to go about things in\u00a0the city where you might wait for a table longer than you&#8217;d wait to get to the top of the Empire State\u00a0Building. (The latter of which we waited\u00a0three and a half hours for, thank you very much.) Serendipity 3.\u00a0This\u00a0tacky, eclectic little eatery is one of my\u00a0most beloved stops in the city. A) Because I LOVE desserts. B) Because I&#8217;m always hoping to see John Cusack, but that&#8217;s neither here nor there. After\u00a0being told at 9p that the restaurant was no longer taking names on the waiting list (there was close to a gazillion folks waiting outside and this was a Sunday night),\u00a0we were then told to check back at 11:30p to see if they could spare a\u00a0table for us.\u00a0And, luckily, at 11:30p on the button, we made the chilly trek to the restaurant and was granted a table after a 10 minute wait. Sweet! \u00a0I ordered up the Frozen Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate, the sister of Serendipity&#8217;s famed Frozen Hot Chocolate. I love to crunch the little ice pieces in the sundae. I was only able to eat a quarter of the dessert, though,\u00a0because it made me even colder than I initially was and I was already pretty full from dinner. Dylan&#8217;s Candy Bar. Did I mention I like dessert? Well, that includes candy. Dylan Lauren, daughter of Ralph, is the queen of this three-story candy store. It&#8217;s colorful, there&#8217;s a bathtub of gumballs and there&#8217;s chocolate and Swedish fish at every turn. What&#8217;s not to love? Milkshakes at Pop Burger. This hip spot caught our eyes after waiting in line to get into FAO Schwarz. The bottom floor offers quick, casual counter service and, upstairs, you can lounge on sofas while enjoying the goods. While it took a very long time to get our food (there was a mix up in the kitchen and it didn&#8217;t help that we were sitting behind a wall and were barely visible), it was delish once it arrived: bite-size sliders, crispy fries and the most out-of-this-world milkshakes I&#8217;ve ever tasted.
