Some ways to do this include:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Choose a color or theme to simplify decisions and coordinate set-up.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>If you have a nice table, just add a beautiful table runner.<\/li>\n<li>For a little more pizzazz, add chargers or placemats to accent.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Use the same shape for all your plates.<\/li>\n<li>Select fun, casual stemware for a little extra \u201cpop.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Are there colors\/materials\/motifs that are particularly trendy this summer for entertaining?\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I find that pale yellow, soft pink, bold orange, vibrant green, delicate blue and bright red are always great choices for summer. When choosing materials and motifs, I look for patterns and shapes that add texture to create a more visually-interesting ensemble.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What are your thoughts on plastic or paper plates\/utensils for summer entertaining?\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Plastic and paper can be a great choice for the right venue.\u00a0\u00a0If I am at the beach, plastic and paper are best. For a casual occasion, I suggest a more lighthearted approach to elegance: \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Choose light-weight linens. For visual interest, use a mix\/match theme with alternating colors. Fold napkins into whimsical shapes.<\/li>\n<li>Keep your centerpiece simple. For a long picnic table, this could be three small sets of florals in vases, jars, or baskets.<\/li>\n<li>Have fun with table accents.\u00a0\u00a0Feature cute figurines, salt and pepper shakers, or condiment dipping bowls that complement your theme or color.<\/li>\n<li>Use stemware to add whimsy and another dimension of color.\u00a0 Look for casual stemware featuring unique patterns or sayings. Or, simply fill basic tumblers and highballs with bright, flavored waters or fruits.<\/li>\n<li>Mix and match stainless steel flatware patterns for visual interest.\u00a0 Asking if guests can guess the number of different patterns is a fun way to encourage conversation and get guests to look more closely at the table.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What about for a more formal event?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For formal elegance, I recommend:<\/p>\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Choosing heavier linens that cover the table and extend to the floor.\u00a0\u00a0Fold napkins into exquisite designs.<\/li>\n<li>Making your centerpiece an expressive focal point befitting the mood of the event. For example, with the Christmas Dinner tablescape in my book <em>Entertaining\u00a0and Celebrating: An Elegant Feast For Every Season<\/em>, I used a black\u00a0lacquer\u00a0vase to complement the baby grand piano in the room.<\/li>\n<li>Accenting your table with beautiful pieces.\u00a0\u00a0This can include ornate name card holders, delicate figurines, and stylish salt and pepper shakers.<\/li>\n<li>Using formal stemware.\u00a0\u00a0This includes a water glass, and both white and red wine glasses displayed on the table.\u00a0\u00a0Once guests make their selections,\u00a0your service team removes the extra glass.\u00a0\u00a0Or, if you know your guests\u2019 selections ahead of time, you can place the appropriate wine glass on the table.<\/li>\n<li>Going with your best, stainless steel flatware in a matching pattern. For complex menus, and if you are serving appetizers, accent your dish with mini bistro\/appetizer flatware.<\/li>\n<li>Hiring a service team. If you\u2019re making the investment to host a formal event, you\u2019re probably hoping to remember it long after the event is over. But if you\u2019re trying to manage all the details yourself, you will be too busy to enjoy the moment. So get someone to help you!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How can someone make every day a little more special with tablescapes?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Serve meals in the dining room instead of the kitchen nook.<\/li>\n<li>Add a nice floral centerpiece.<\/li>\n<li>Use coordinated placemats and chargers.<\/li>\n<li>Use
