\nContrary to popular belief, Mexican Independence Day is Sept. 16–not Cinco de Mayo. To commemorate this day, Scottsdale’s SumoMaya, along with AZFoothills and\u00a0Casamigos Tequila (which you might know as the award-winning brand from George Clooney, Rande Gerber and Arizona’s own Mike Meldman), presents the first-annual True Mexican Independence Day.
\nOn Sept. 16, from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m., you’re invited to say so-long to summer with a Mexican Independence Day bash at the Valley’s hottest new restaurant. Starting at 5 p.m., enjoy the sounds of a mariachi band and, until 9 p.m., savor complimentary butler-passed hors d\u2019oeuvres at the bar. Also at the bar, SumoMaya hosts an all-day social hour that spotlights specials like $5 Casamigos margaritas all day, $5 Casamigos Sumo-ritas and $7 reposados \u201cburros.\u201d
\nTo kick the celebration into high gear, order up SumoMaya’s four-course True Mexican Independence Day menu. It will be available for $49 per person with a Casaamigo tequila pairing. Reservations are not required, but they are suggested.
