Ice Cream Spots in Phoenix

Though we may not want to admit it, summer is sneaking up on us. While the scorching-hot steering wheels and elevated air-conditioning bills are no fun, triple-digit temps does mean ice cream, ice cream and more ice cream. We’ve got to keep cool somehow, right? Here are a few of our favorites:
Scottsdale’s Sweet Republic scoops up artisan ice cream in an incredible array of flavors–so incredible that the ice creamery was named on the nation’s Top 10 ice cream spots by Bon Appetit magazine. Sweet Republic’s unique flavor arsenal includes salted-butter caramel, basil-lime sorbet and pear-ginger sorbet. Looking for a truly decadent treat? Try the Campfire S’more sundae, topped with Sweet Republic’s from-scratch marshmallow. If you can’t make it to the Sweet Republic shot, the lip-smacking ice cream is available at Whole Foods. 480.248.6979, http://www.sweetrepublic.com/.
Sugar Bowl, located in Old Town Scottsdale, is one of the Valley’s most cherished gems for those wanting a throwback dining experience.  While the Sugar Bowl dishes up delish sandwiches, salads and more, it is known for its yummy array of ice cream desserts. The deletable malts and “Super Fancy Sundaes and Splits” are tops, including the Top Hat sundae and Tin Roof sundae. 480.946.0051, http://www.sugarbowlscottsdale.com/.
Churn From the folks behind the ever-popular and beyond-tasty Postino winecafe is Churn, a new artisan ice cream shop in Phoenix. (Churn just opened in April.) In addition to homemade ice cream, Churn visitors can also expect delish pastries (think cupcakes, muffins, cookies and more) and coffee in a cute, cozy atmosphere.  602.279.8024, http://churnaz.com/.
