This season, Hotel del Coronado<\/a> will enchant visitors with an immersive celebration rooted in history, fantasy, and coastal elegance. The theme for its 2025 holiday experience is \u201cA Holiday in Oz,\u201d<\/strong> a tribute to the resort\u2019s real-life connection with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz<\/em> author L. Frank Baum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between 1904 and 1917, Baum frequently stayed at The Del and found inspiration in its storied architecture and serene ocean views. It was during these stays that he penned several books from the Oz<\/em> series, including Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz<\/em> and The Emerald City of Oz<\/em>. That same imagination now forms the basis of the hotel\u2019s holiday transformation, with themed d\u00e9cor, immersive experiences, and literary nods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the heart of this year\u2019s festivities is the newly restored Victorian Garden Courtyard, which has been transformed into a glowing \u201cTinsel Trail to Oz.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A projected yellow brick road winds through glowing dandelions, illuminated poppies, and four soaring 12-foot Christmas trees, each inspired by Baum\u2019s characters. Guests can stroll the trail with a holiday cocktail from the Emerald Bar and learn more about Baum\u2019s legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most anticipated returns is Skating by the Sea\u00ae,<\/strong> The Del\u2019s beachfront ice rink that overlooks the Pacific. With the hotel\u2019s iconic red turret in the backdrop and twinkling lights above, it offers a surreal take on a winter tradition. A portion of proceeds from this attraction will benefit Make-A-Wish\u00ae San Diego<\/strong>, continuing the resort\u2019s commitment to giving back during the season of giving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the evenings, guests can enjoy the reimagined \u201cWonder of Oz\u201d Lightshow Spectacular<\/strong> on the Founders Lawn. The free, family-friendly event features nightly projections and music inspired by the world of Oz, all set around the famed 1904 Norfolk Pine. Beachside Igloos<\/strong> offer a cozy coastal retreat complete with fire pits, s\u2019mores, and dedicated service, while Frostbite<\/strong>, an elevated rink-side lounge, provides a chic spot to enjoy festive cocktails and gourmet bites with front-row views of the action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guests can also indulge in elegant dining experiences throughout the season.
