If you have young kids like us, you might remember that last year spring break never really ended. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were in Strawberry for the vacation week off school in March 2020 and watched a pandemic unfold before our eyes. Our school initially added a week to spring break, then another, and another as they navigated how to finish out the school year online. It feels like an eternity ago, and at the same time, like it was just yesterday\u2026 Anyone else?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m sure for those of you thinking ahead towards Spring Break this year, it will look a lot different than years before. With popular destinations and flights being restricted\/closed and visits to out-of-state family still uncertain, planning a road trip to our small town might be just the perfect thing (read: fresh air, no screens). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

No matter what ages your kids are, there\u2019s truly something for everyone. We\u2019ve broken it out into categories based on ages for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Babies\/PreK:<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
  • \"\"<\/figure><\/li>
  • \"\"<\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

    Little kids benefit so much from getting out in nature, and Pine & Strawberry have that in abundance! Go hike the Pine-Strawberry Trail, and take your time! Search for different leaves, look for animals (maybe even bring binoculars for the kids to use!) like squirrels, bugs and lizards, and maybe even an elk! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    After your nature walk, play yard games at the Inn. Bonus \u2013 you can stay close to your home base to make it easy to stay on schedule for those of you with nappers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Last suggestion: make sure you stop for ice cream treats at Pine Creek Fudge! What kid doesn\u2019t love a special dessert?!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Elementary Age:<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Visit the Tonto Natural Bridge! It\u2019s a great real life geology lesson. Visit the on-site museum, and have your kids take turns reading all the trail signs aloud. End your visit with a picnic! There are some really great spots to sit and enjoy your meal, and your kids can explore a bit more while the grown ups relax. Next, grab a meal at THAT Brewery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    They have outdoor games like sand volleyball and horseshoes that your kids will love playing! Bonus \u2013 mom and dad get to sit and sip on a delicious beer flight together. Finally, visit the historic Strawberry Schoolhouse for a photo opp. Poll your kids and see what they would think about going to school in a one-room schoolhouse like that!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Teenagers:<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Take the kids shopping at the local shops! Even if they aren\u2019t into antiques, I guarantee they will get a kick out of some of the unique items that can be found in the local stores. Here\u2019s a fun idea: have them leave their phones back at the Inn, give them each $10, and see who can find the most unique treasure to take home as a souvenir! Several of the shops have really neat locally made items too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Next, rent e-bikes from The Rusty Pine Cone and cruise through the neighborhoods as a family. Finally, I think we all know that pizza is the way to a teenager\u2019s heart, am I right?! Head to Old County Inn for live music and great food on the patio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Bonus idea: <\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    If you want to do a harder hike as a family, do several miles of the Pine Trailhead. Research the history together as a family before you go! It\u2019s part of the Arizona Trail. Who knows, maybe it will inspire your teen to take up a new hobby!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
