Childsplay hosted its second annual Society for Imagination and Wonder cocktail reception on the evening of Monday, November 10. The members-only event, held at the home of Sally and Richard Lehmann, honored Childsplay's most distinguished supporters. Guests were awed and inspired by a dynamic presentation from Thomas Schumacher, the President of Disney Theatrical Group. Schumacher oversees the development, creation, and execution of all Disney live entertainment around the globe, including Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aida, and more recently, Peter and the Starcatcher, Aladdin, and Newsies. Passionate about theatre from an early age, Schumacher has long recognized the impact that theatre has on the lives of young people, and spoke to members of the Society for Imagination and Wonder on the power of performance and arts education for children. Launched in 2013, the Society for Imagination and Wonder honors Childsplay's most distinguished supporters, who have given more than $20,000 to the company in lifetime support. The event also served as an opportunity to recognize five new Lifetime Members to the society, including Betty Drake, Gail Fisher and Mel Kessler, Mary Ann Miller, and The Rosenlund Family Foundation. These new members join the ranks of more than 100 other distinguished supporters, who have given Childsplay the resources to grow into a nationally recognized arts education organization.
