Lorain Moorehead Therapy and Consultation<\/a> is a Scottsdale-based practice that serves high-achieving clients who are accomplished in many ways and are also being challenged in relationship or with perfectionism, burnout, or underlying panic or anger; essentially, just being \u201cstuck\u201d in some way.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond 1:1 therapy, Moorehead is passionate about working with other therapists to advance their clinical practices.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI do this with my podcast, Self Careapist Therapist, where I interview expert researchers and therapists to deep dive modalities and client populations, and through clinical supervision and consultation,\u201d she said. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

AZF: What is your \u201clife motto\u201d?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social worker to the core: the right idea, resource, or conversation can open the next door.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AZF: Did you always know that you wanted to be an entrepreneur? If not, when did you realize that it was the right path for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve known I wanted to be a therapist since childhood, and I\u2019ve been doing that formally since 2008. Entrepreneurship found me in 2012; I spotted a need that wasn\u2019t being served and couldn\u2019t stop imagining what it could look like if it were.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That led to the first iteration of my business: in-home therapeutic assessments for families navigating everyday challenges like bedtime refusal, outbursts, and homework battles. (Think therapist meets Super Nanny.) I loved the work, but what surprised me was how much I also loved the behind-the-scenes of building it. The systems, the structure, the creative problem-solving on the backend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AZF: How do you feel best supported?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I feel most supported through deep conversation.\u00a0 Talking through ideas, working out how to implement them, and thinking alongside someone who\u2019s engaged with the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AZF: What motivates you to keep going amidst the challenges that come with being an entrepreneur?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve reached a point where I\u2019m so in flow with my business that the unpredictable moments don\u2019t derail me the way they once might have. Every client and consultee brings something I learn from, and that excitement carries me through the harder stretches. The rest comes down to structure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I keep small, concrete goals mapped out so there\u2019s always something clear to move toward, and I have systems in place that tap into my strengths and work around the things that don\u2019t compliment my style.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AZF: Describe your perfect Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My perfect day has many versions, but a recent one captures it well. I met four great friends for Pilates, which parlayed into lunch, then a movie based on a book we\u2019d all read.\u00a0That sparked a book discussion which drifted into watching live music. The only thing missing was dancing!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AZF: What\u2019s one piece of advice you\u2019d give to a young entrepreneur who is just starting out?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start with what I have, and fine-tune from there: My natural tendency is to have things polished before they go out the door.\u00a0Early on this looked like expensive gadgets or design elements before I had fully tested the approach or understood the need through and through.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What I\u2019ve learned since is to lead with a working draft that allows feedback and results to shape the final product.\u00a0It\u2019s changed my relationship with my own work.\u00a0It has allowed me to invite in new methods and research without feeling that I\u2019ve sunk too much into something to let it evolve.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AZF: What excites you most about being an entrepreneur?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entrepreneurship allows me to attune to my personal values which are creativity, learning and conversation.\u00a0 If I\u2019m getting low on one, I\u2019m able to develop an approach or modify my systems to incorporate it which is great for my mindset as well as for my clients.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
