As much as we may daydream about tropical sands, it’s not always possible to escape to an exotic destination over the summer. If you can’t find the time to hightail it out of the desert, try experimenting with paint trends to liven up your home instead.

Dunn-Edwards color expert Sara McClean offers her insight on some trends and hot colors for summer 2013.

ZEMERALD-1

McClean says emerald is the color of the year. “We will see this hue stand out in a range of designs, including wall color. DE5676 Vegetation is a nature-inspired, modern green to try in almost any room in your home.”

According to McClean, softened, tinted whites reflect a rural inspiration, celebrating nostalgia and romantic notions. “As Downton Abby takes the American television audience by storm, we will see more of these restrained contemplative colors within fashion and interiors.”

DEW302 Romantic, DE5393 Poetic Yellow, DE5176 Peaceful Peach, and DE5088 Apple Valley are hues with these historical, impressionistic painting qualities.

Summer is the time of year to get creative and wild. McClean notes that the season provides a canvas for your imagination to run free. “We draw inspiration from our desire to escape to far-off lands as our vacations are booked. These colors reflect a multicultural mix within any urban environment and at the same time, inspire dreams of bohemia and gypsy life.”

DE5195 Bright Mango, DE5580 Parakeet, DE5780 Waterbaby, DE5410 Golden Glitter all show the optimistic side of summer living.
