Big changes are on the horizon for Arizona homeowners in 2025, bringing opportunities to enhance comfort, save on energy costs, and embrace eco-friendly solutions. Starting January 1, U.S. Department of Energy mandates require all new HVAC systems to use A2L refrigerants, which are better for the environment but may increase system prices by 20 percent or more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, Arizona’s Efficiency Program offers up to $8,000 in rebates for low-income households to switch to energy-efficient heat pumps, potentially slashing annual energy bills by over $760.\u00a0Navigating these shifts can be daunting, but Brian Garrison, owner of APES HVAC & Plumbing, is here to offer guidance to make the right choice for your home and budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The new regulations and incentives are a game changer,” said Garrison. “They give homeowners the chance to improve efficiency and reduce their environmental impact, but it\u2019s important to act early and plan strategically.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Garrison said there are three HVAC trends \u2013 both with benefits and drawbacks \u2013 that homeowners can expect to see in 2025:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sustainable HVAC Practices<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most significant trend in 2025 is the transition to HVAC systems that use EPA-compliant refrigerants like R-454B. This, according to Garrison, is a critical step for sustainability. While these new refrigerants reduce environmental harm, the shift may come with upfront costs. “Not only are these systems better for the planet, but they\u2019re also designed for optimal efficiency, which means lower energy bills over time,\u201d he explained. \u201cIn the long run, they\u2019ll be worth the up-front investment.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For low-income households, sustainability is still a driver. Arizona\u2019s Efficiency Program offers significant rebates for upgrading to energy-efficient systems, making 2025 an ideal time to invest in a high-performance heat pump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMaintenance isn\u2019t really a trend, it\u2019s a lifestyle,\u201d Garrison said. \u201cI can\u2019t stress enough the importance of maintaining your unit just like you do your car.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another trend we can expect to see is ultraviolet (UV) light enhancements, which eliminate bacteria, viruses, and mold in HVAC systems. This upgrade not only improves air quality but also protects family health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
