Sure, I start the year with willpower to spare, but come Valentine\u2019s Day I end up pulling a Tiger Woods (<i>cough<\/i>, cheating). There was the time I gave up chocolate only to down a plus-size Dairy Milk when no one was looking\u2026 or the time I decided to forgo fancy frappuccinos only to fall victim to a Venti vat of caffeine. And I\u2019m not the only one: research says that 37% of resolution-makers ditch their efforts by February.<\/p>\n<p>Well, my days of deprivation are done. Instead of saying goodbye to something I love, this year I\u2019m saying hello to healthy habits\u2026 habits that have been shown to improve happiness and health. In other words, I\u2019m setting achievable New Year\u2019s goals that aren\u2019t about subtracting (waistline not included), but about adding\u2026 adding to my health and the planet\u2019s health.<\/p>\n<p>So, I resolve to\u2026.<br \/>\n*Eat protein in the a.m. (your appetite will thank you all day)<br \/>\n*Try new fitness classes (tops on my list: The Body Lab) http:\/\/www.thebodylabaz.com\/<br \/>\n*Drink more water (H20 does a body good and satiates appetite)<br \/>\n*Take my time eating (slowing down can cut your portions)<br \/>\n*Schedule more fitness dates (what\u2019s better than burning calories and catching up with friends)<br \/>\n*Hit up the farmer\u2019s market (support local farmers and cut your carbon footprint)<br \/>\n*Go vegetarian at least one day a week (going meatless boosts your health and the planet\u2019s)<br \/>\n*Try a new fruit or veggie (spigarella and squash blossoms, here I come!)<br \/>\n*Snack between meals (between-meal munching means you\u2019re less likely to binge later)<br \/>\n*Eat more fiber (it\u2019s heart-healthy and a weight-loss wonder)<br \/>\n*Splurge on a healthy cookbook (I\u2019ve been eyeing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chroniclebooks.com\/titles\/food-drink\/health-vegetarian\/pure-vegan.html\"><i>Pure Vegan<\/i><\/a>)<br \/>\n*Floss more (healthy gums are linked to a healthy heart)<br \/>\n*Make a grocery list and weekly eating plan (less chance for cheating)<br \/>\n*Drink green tea (fight cancer, heart disease and hypertension with every sip)<br \/>\n*Eat more fish (Lean protein + omega-3 fatty acids + vitamin D = less chance of heart disease)<br \/>\n*Make more meals (I\u2019m taking the <a href=\"http:\/\/arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/fitness\/nutrition\/take-the-cookingstreak-challenge\/\">#CookingStreak Challenge<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>What are your healthy resolutions?
