It really hit\nher when her 13-year-old son asked her to play outside and she couldn\u2019t.&nbsp;\n\u201cI was overweight and tired\u201d. In addition she states her family noted she\nseemed angry all the time and wasn\u2019t present. While I realize many of you\nreading this may not have 200 lbs. to lose, how many of you are truly happy\nwith your current health?&nbsp; Currently over 60% of our population in the US\nis either overweight and\/or obese. While you may feel this is not affecting you\nin a negative way, the fact is if you are in this percentage your are more\nsusceptible to health issues, you will not have the same energy or strength as\nsomeone that is healthy.&nbsp; Not everyone needs to or should strive to have\nabs of steel or muscles that \u201cpop\u201d out, but we should all work towards being in\nan optimal health and fitness level.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a father of\nthree and a happily married man, I can tell you there is no greater feeling\nthan being able to be active with my family.&nbsp; I personally have struggled\nwith my weight (body fat) in the past. At my heaviest I was 215-220 lbs. with a\n38-inch waist. Not healthy at all. I was not happy, I was not confident and I\nwas not the best version of me.&nbsp; You need to ask yourself, do you want to\nsit on the couch while your children are growing up or do you want to be\noutside with them? I understand do to injuries, illnesses and\/or limitations\nnot everyone will be able to go for a run with their child, throw a ball, go\nfor a hike, etc.. I do however feel we could all be healthier, happier and me\nmore present.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are 5 tips to\nget you feeling better about your health and get you to be a more active\nparent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img  loading=\"lazy\"  decoding=\"async\"  width=\"750\"  height=\"500\"  src=\"data:image\/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAEAAAABAQMAAAAl21bKAAAAA1BMVEUAAP+KeNJXAAAAAXRSTlMAQObYZgAAAAlwSFlzAAAOxAAADsQBlSsOGwAAAApJREFUCNdjYAAAAAIAAeIhvDMAAAAASUVORK5CYII=\"  alt=\"\"  class=\"wp-image-7942 pk-lazyload\"  data-pk-sizes=\"auto\"  data-ls-sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\"  data-pk-src=\"https:\/\/www.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/fitness\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_5511-750x500.jpg\"  data-pk-srcset=\"https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/health-and-fitness\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/24162638\/IMG_5511-750x500.jpg 750w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/health-and-fitness\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/24162638\/IMG_5511-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/health-and-fitness\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/24162638\/IMG_5511-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/health-and-fitness\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/24162638\/IMG_5511-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/health-and-fitness\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/24162638\/IMG_5511-380x253.jpg 380w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/health-and-fitness\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/24162638\/IMG_5511-800x533.jpg 800w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/health-and-fitness\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/24162638\/IMG_5511-1160x773.jpg 1160w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/health-and-fitness\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/24162638\/IMG_5511-80x53.jpg 80w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/health-and-fitness\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/24162638\/IMG_5511-620x413.jpg 620w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/health-and-fitness\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/24162638\/IMG_5511-850x567.jpg 850w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/health-and-fitness\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/24162638\/IMG_5511.jpg 1500w\" ><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u00a0Start      slow!!!\u00a0 If you have not worked out in awhile (6 months or more),      start off with 10 minutes of walking or stretching daily.\u00a0 Once you      have this down (give yourself a week or two), try to bump up two or three      of these days to 20 minutes of activity.\u00a0 I\u2019d suggest adding some      resistance training.\u00a0 Give yourself      a month at this then try and bump up to 30 minutes x 3 a week and the      other days work on 20 minutes instead of 10.\u00a0<\/li><li>Cut      the sugar!\u00a0 Do you find yourself reaching for the sweets and\/or      sodas?\u00a0 Work on cutting this down 25-30%.\u00a0 Stick with this for a couple weeks, and      then take it down another 20-25% so you\u2019re at 50%.\u00a0 See how you\u2019re      feeling and this may be good enough.\u00a0      You may need to cut down more, but give yourself a month at      least.\u00a0 It takes over 60 days to      form a habit, so don\u2019t rush it.<\/li><li>Drink      more water!\u00a0 You should be drinking .8-1 oz. per lb. you weigh.\u00a0      This means, most of us should be drinking at least \u00be a gallon of water      day.\u00a0 If you have a hard time with H2O then add some lemon or fruit      to get some flavor or add some natural electrolytes.<\/li><li>Enlist      your family to help support you and you can support them.\u00a0 We are      more apt to achieve a goal if we have an accountability partner or      partners. \u00a0 Over 50% more likely to achieve or goal.\u00a0 So, even if they don\u2019t need to lose the      weight, they most likely would benefit from either adding a little      activity, decreasing sweets or fried foods or sleeping more, so have them      come up with a goal and keep one another on track.<\/li><li>Limit      your time on electronics.\u00a0 Not only will cutting your time on      electronics give you more time to exercise, it will help you with focus      and decrease sitting and stress.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you want to have more energy, drop some lbs., lose body fat or be stronger I strongly encourage you to make fitness a priority.\u00a0 In addition to you feeling better, you will be a great role model for your children and your loved ones.
