A Healthy Start To Your Day (+GIVEAWAY!)

I had the pleasure of meeting certified holistic health coach and personal trainer Michele Rusinko at a cooking demo. In under an hour, she not only whipped up a ridiculously healthy meal, she peppered her cooking with plenty of nutrition know-how so that we all went home with satisfied stomachs and improved food smarts. So it’s not surprise that Michele’s healthy habit revolves around wholesome food.

Michele’s healthiest habit: A whole food protein smoothie for breakfast!
Because of my active lifestyle, I was always hungry and really started understanding the importance of making sure I ate good-quality protein at breakfast, combining it with carbs and fats to keep me going until lunch. I developed this recipe to give me the energy I needed to start my day. It’s simple, nutritious and delicious! If I could get everyone to change one thing to improve their health, it would be this. Well, this and my 5:30am spin class!

Whole Foods Protein Smoothie
1 cup berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries)

½ banana (optional)

3 handfuls baby spinach

2 tablespoons pepitas (raw, unsalted)

2 tablespoons sunflower seeds

1 tablespoon chia seeds

1 tablespoon flax seed

1 tablespoon hemp seed (hulled)

1 cup water

1 cup ice (optional)

Combine ingredients in a blender and whirl until smooth.
