Did you do it? Did you make a list of all the things you love about your body (click here in case you missed it)? Today is not a day to bemoan your love handles and doughy tummy. It’s not a day to be a hater. We do enough of that already. Today is a day to be thankful for all your assets, from your curvalicious backside to your almost-six-pack-abs (they’re under there somewhere). And in honor of Thanksgiving, I did just that. Here goes my list…

I am thankful that I can move, flow, wiggle, jump, leap, bounce! My body works. When I tell it what to do, it listens (for the most part). I may not be able to hold every leg lift or crunch as high as the person next to me, but I get pretty darn close. And for that I’m thankful.

I am thankful that I can rock some pretty awesome arm balances. So what that I haven’t mastered handstand and headstand (one day). Instead of focusing on what I haven’t yet accomplished, I give myself props for conquering crane pose and for nailing Eka Pada Koundinyasana (aka: twisted one legged arm balance). No, Cirque du Soleil isn’t knocking down my door, but there is something wicked awesome about being able to balance on your arms. I kinda rock!.. and for that I’m thankful.

I am thankful that I don’t have to wear reading glasses.
Yet.

I am thankful that I don’t have to wear makeup to leave the house. Makeup is fun, don’t get me wrong, but I love going out fresh-faced without a stitch of makeup, and for that I’m thankful.

I am thankful that I can pass the pencil test. If you’re not familiar with the pencil test, Google it.

I am thankful for my good genes. Nope, not talking about my William Rast denim, although I’m thankful for that too, but the positive DNA my parents passed along. I used to not-so-secretly get annoyed with my parents for the less than attractive traits I inherited, like my man hands and monkey arms (I’m long-sleeved challenged). But the genetic lottery also gave me looong legs (thanks mom) and arms that look muscular with minimal effort (thanks dad), and for that I’m thankful. Oh, and I’ve even learned to embrace my long arms which come in pretty handy on the volleyball court.

I am thankful that I can hike a mountain. I got up at the crack of dawn this morning, strapped on my hiking shoes, and climbed to the top of Piestewa Peak. And for that I’m thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving!
