What is your all-time favorite Tweet?
For having Tweeted more than 4,000 times, none come to mind. I always love to Tweet about my clients being in the media, something that is going on with them or an event that I am with them at.

Who is your favorite person to follow?
@RevRunWisdom for his daily Tweets that flow through my Twitter stream and give me that pick-me-up that I need. Another is @EricStangel, the head writer and executive producer of the “Late Show with David Letterman.” He always Tweets things so nonchalant but I always seem to crack up reading them.

Why did you start Tweeting?
When Twitter first came out, I was still in college and trying to make a niche for myself at my internship. Twitter was something that no one had conquered yet, so learning about it and being able to show the effectiveness of using it was one of the reasons that I received my first job. I knew it was different than Facebook (in a business sense) and liked that, because I was able to start to create my own identity in the public relations world.

Where do you Tweet from?
I Tweet from my desk at work. I have two monitors: one with my e-mail, one with social media open. If I’m on the go, it could be anything from a client’s location, home, where I’m eating, etc. Having Twitter, Facebook and Foursquare on my phone is an addiction. Even if I am sitting near a computer, I sometimes have Twitter open on my phone; it’s just another screen to work with. It’s the best thing to keep me occupied when I’m standing in line or waiting for a meeting as well. Another place that I Tweet from is called #buzzcation. A group of us that are in the industry have Tweet-ups about once a month at a different place. Some are to raise money for a cause, others just to have a happy hour. We encourage the media to come so that we can interact with them on a different level. I have met some really great people at these who have not only become mentors to me but also friends.

What do you never Tweet about?
I never talk bad about a demanding client, another agency or a specific person as someone who you might not want to see it, will. As a PR person, you never want ammo for someone to use when it can be avoided.

What Tweet has garnered the most response?
One of my Tweets was once on the news:
@AshleyOakes: OMG I just straightened my hair and its raining #bestofluck #worstofluck
@Gina3TV saw it, thought it was funny and used it during one of the weather segments that morning. I pay attention to the weather before I get ready now.

Strangest place you've Tweeted from?
The other day I was Tweeting and trying to unlock my apartment door. I started kicking and knocking the door because I thought that my boyfriend had locked the deadbolt. I called him because I was so mad that he wouldn’t open the door. Come to find out, after looking up, that I was at the wrong apartment.
@John_R_Scott: @ashleyoakes just called yelling at me about the door being locked!! My Reply: It’s Not ... Her reply: OMG I AM AT THE WRONG DOOR

How do you choose who you follow?
Usually if I read about someone online or if someone I already follow seems to be having a good conversation with them, I follow. If I ever see a media person on Twitter, I follow them no matter what. You would be surprised how many reporters are on Twitter and as a PR pro you better know who they are.

iPhone or BlackBerry?
I have the BlackBerry, even though I’ve only owned Apple computers. And even though I Tweeted this once: @AshleyOakes Dear #blackberry, please stop sucking so bad before I threaten to switch to the iPhone. And we all know we don't want that. Thanks. Love AO.
