This weekend is all about keeping cool--perhaps that means enjoying ice-cold OJ alongside a Starburst-inspired pancake or burrowing in a chilly movie theater while catching soon-to-be classic flick. Check out all the family fun in the Valley for the weekend of August 3-5.
Thursday:
13th Annual Miracle Treat Day
Get the weekend started a little early with a sweet treat that will cool you down and gives back to the community. On Thursday, August 2, Dairy Queen will host its 13th Annual Miracle Treat Day, with $1 or more from the sale of each Blizzard Treat benefiting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a nonprofit that raises money for children’s hospitals across the country. Proceeds from Blizzard Treat sales in the Valley and surrounding areas will benefit Phoenix Children’s Hospital, the local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
Friday:
“Christopher Robin” Premieres
In Disney’s “Christopher Robin,” beloved Winnie-the-Pooh and friends reunite with old pal Christopher Robin (played by Ewan McGregor), who is now an adult. For movie times, click here.
The overwhelmingly popular Bodies Revealed exhibit is now open at OdySea in the Desert and explores the human body in an intimate and informative way. The 12,000-sq.-ft. exhibition will remain on display until March 2019. Bodies Revealed gives an in-depth view of the complex and intricate network of internal organs and systems in a very up-close and personal way, with more than 200 whole and partial preserved human body specimens. There are nine self-guided galleries, each one providing a detailed look into a specific part of the body, its functions and its importance to the rest of the body.
Unicorn Milkshakes
Get ‘em before they’re gone. ZuZu at Hotel Valley Ho and Luci’s at the Orchard have each debuted a unicorn milkshake with plenty of pink, sprinkles, swirly lollipops and fluffy cotton candy, offering the prettiest way to cool down.
Saturday:
Introduce your child to the wonderful world of music through the Musical Instrument Museum’s early childhood music and movement courses from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m. (there are three different classes determined by age). Each class is structured around developmentally appropriate activities for the children to interact with and create their own music; thus, little ones develop musical and social skills and foster physical, emotional, and cognitive growth. Reservations are required; first come, first served. Due to space limitations, only one child and one adult per ticket will be allowed to participate. $12 per class.
Kids’ Night Out at Arizona Sunrays Gymnastics & Dance Centers
From 6 to 10 p.m., the Arizona Sunrays will host its special Kids’ Night Out event for ages 3 to 14. Kids get to have their own Saturday night fun by enjoying gymnastics, dancing, jumping in a bounce house and on trampolines, obstacle courses, fort building in the foam pits, and then wind down by watching a movie. Cost is $30 per child with a $5 off sibling discount. Pizza and drinks are included.
A Mirror Maze: Numbers in Nature at the Arizona Science Center
Want to give your kids a treat while expanding their knowledge? Well, the Arizona Science Center has a new exhibit perfect for you. Guests will have the opportunity to explore a seemingly infinite repeating pattern of mirrors in this exhibition created by the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry (MSI). So, be sure to grab your favorite selfie stick and prepare for many twists and turns around dead ends. Oh! And maze explorers will ultimately discover a small secret room with bonus puzzles, imagery and artifacts.
