Looking for a hike that is short and sweet? Red Rock Crossing has a gem of a watering hole with the convenience of a short one-mile hike to the waters. The picturesque view of red rocks acts as the perfect backdrop for family fun. Relax beach-side while the kids swim and cruise down the rock-formation. Summer hours are from 8 a.m. to dusk, and parking passes are required.

Dive-in Movie at Hurricane Harbor: “Incredibles 2”

Take the kids to experience the ultimate poolside movie night under the stars. At Hurricane Harbor movies are shown from the Hurricane Bay wave pool at dusk every Friday in July. The movie of the week is “Incredibles 2.” Movies are free with park admission.

Kids In Focus Photography Exhibit

Beautiful things happen when you give a child a camera. A local nonprofit called Kids in Focus is doing just that. By pairing youth facing adversities with top photographers in the Valley at-risk youth can see the world in a new light. Open your child’s heart with the photo gallery exhibit that brings this program to life. The Biltmore Fashion Park and Scottsdale Fashion Square are featuring the exhibit.

Butterfly Walk at Boyce Thompson Arboretum

Spread your wings and fly to the Boyce Thompson Arboretum for a guided butterfly walk. On Saturday, July 20, at 8:30 a.m. Butterfly Wonderland’s Adrienne Grimaldi will guide you through gardens of lush green scenery. Enjoy this summer morning walk amidst butterflies as you learn how they contribute to thriving ecosystems. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for kids.

Calling all dog lovers! Arizona Foothills Magazineis holding its ninth-annual Dog Days of Summer Cutest Dog Contest. This Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., join AZ Foothills on the upstairs patio at iPic Scottsdale. Bring your fur friends to the casting call for doggie glamour shots, prizes, treats and a variety of other activities. The “Top Dog” winner will receive cash prizes, a professional photo shoot and a feature in the magazine.
