To commemorate Desert Schools Federal Credit Union's 75th anniversary, it will launch its upcoming Shine On campaign Jan. 15 by donating more than $750,000 to Valley charities. Desert Schools will present the United Way with a check for more than $300,000 and Phoenix Children’s Hospital with a check for nearly $400,000 at the Phoenix Zoo this Wednesday. In addition, Desert Schools will reveal six Valley charities that have been selected to receive an initial $7,500 grant and compete for a $30,000 voter-elected prize as part of the Shine On campaign. Though the six charities will remain a surprise until the 15th, they will cover animal welfare, arts, neighborhood beautification, youth development, education and health.
