In honor of Valentine's Day next week, AZFoothills.com introduces you to some of our favorite Valley couples. First up, Brittany and Chris Owings (Diamondbacks' infielder/outfielder). Read on to learn how the newlyweds met (they were married three months ago!) and what they love most about one another.
How long have you been married? Three months (married on Nov. 5, 2016).
How did you meet? We met in 2013 while I was back home for the offseason and Brittany was at University of South Carolina (which is where I had committed to go to before I was drafted by the D-backs). We met through mutual friends and went on our first date at Bonefish Grill in Columbia, S.C.
Where were you married? We got married this past offseason in Williamsburg, V.A., which is where Brittany’s parents live.
What is your favorite Valley date night? It’s hard to choose just one, but we enjoy Sumo Maya, Fleming’s Steakhouse, Mastro’s Steakhouse and St. Francis.
What is your favorite thing about one another? (Chris talking about Brittany): My favorite thing about Brittany is that she is so supportive. It’s not easy doing what we do for a living, and she is very patient with me being at the field all day and with our travel schedule. Plus, she is also a really good mom to our puppy. (From Brittany): What I love about Chris is his ability to make me smile no matter what kind of day I’m having or what kind of mood I am in. He always knows the right thing to say or do to put a smile on my face.
What is the key to a successful marriage? Honesty is the biggest thing and spending time together. With my work and travel schedule we are away from each other a lot, so we really cherish the time we spend together whether it is going out to a movie or to dinner.
What are your Valentine’s Day plans? Last year we had a great Valentine’s Day spent at home with our new puppy, but this year is important because it is our first one as a married couple, so we will go out to a nice dinner and I will get her some of her favorite candy and flowers. We just want to have a fun day spent together.
