Tired of the pitiful looks you receive when Feb. 14 rolls around and you’re sitting alone at a restaurant surrounded by “happy” couples cuddling? This Valentine’s Day, stay in and celebrate Singles Awareness Day (SAD) with an Anti-Valentine’s Day party.
Invitations
Invite all your single ladies and gentlemen over to your house for an Anti-Valentine’s Day party on Feb. 14th. Make anti-valentines out of black construction paper and lace, but avoid any glimmer of shimmer. Be sure to include who, what, when, where, what to wear, what to bring and what not to bring on the invitations.
Decorations
Black, black and more black! Use construction paper or black lace to make broken hearts and hang them from your ceiling and walls. Then, light as many black candles as you can find and place them around your house. Make bad-relationship name tags, like “serial dater” and “break-up queen,” and hand them to guests at the door to add a little pizzazz to their outfits.
House Rules
- No ex’s allowed.
- No boxes of chocolate, wine or Champagne.
- No pink or red clothing or decorations.
- No one can say the V-word or the L-word.
Every guest will receive a clothing pin with their name tag at the door. If another guest breaks any of the above rules, the party-goer who notices the flub can steal their pin. At the end of the night, whomever has the most pins wins a special prize.
Drinks
Prepare your drinks ahead of time and serve with a sign so guests can pick their Anti-Valentines Day poison according to their mood.

Food
What do you grab after that horrible breakup? Tell guests to bring their go-to comfort food while you serve the least likely date night foods--think garlic knots and onion rings. If you supply dessert, go for a sundae bar complete with raw cookie dough and mounds of chocolate.
Entertainment
Design an anti-love-song playlist for guests to enjoy during Anti-Relationship Scrabble where only words associated with bad relationships can be used. If you want to throw on a movie, make sure it has an un-happy ending like “The Break Up,” or go for a scarier find with “Obsessed.”
