While the kids are out of school and you have a few days off for holiday break, grab a couple tickets to some of the flicks in theaters across the Valley. Here are just a few of the action-packed, fun-filled and dramatic movies at the box office.
“Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked,” December 16
This fun, family film takes you on a cruise ship with the lovable chipmunks and lands you on a deserted island. The chipmunks are searching for a way to get back home but encounter unexpected adventure while on the island.
“Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” December 16
Sherlock Holmes is taking on a case involving the death of Austria’s Crown Prince. Follow Holmes across Europe as he investigates insides gentlemen’s clubs, and gets to know fortune tellers to determine their parts in the murder case. Will Holmes be able to save the lives of those in danger and get to the bottom of the crime?
“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” December 23
Based on the popular book trilogy, “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” covers the murder of Harriet Vanger as it is brought back to the surface by a pair hoping to solve the mystery. Suspicions are that someone in the family had murdered her, but deep secrets in the family make solving the case a difficult project to take on and leads everyone to question how evidence and steps to solving the case had been hidden so well for so long.
“Roadie,” January 6
Landing his dream road crew job for the Blue Oyster Cult as a teenager, Jimmy Testagross was living the perfect life. With a turn in the economy, he was let go at the age of 40, forcing him to rethink his path. Roadie explores his new, unexpected life as he runs into old friends and bullies from high school and has to deal with adult responsibilities like taking care of his aging mother.
“Contraband,” January 13
Mark Wahlberg is the star in this action-packed movie about the dark world of international smuggling, dangerous criminals and corruption. He faces the decision on whether or not to return to the world of contraband that he was once a part of in trying to save his wife and sons from being put in danger themselves.
