It’s the Law!
On November 30, 2010, Arizona state legislature passed a law allowing certain fireworks to be used without permits. Here are the details of the House Bill, minus the legal jargon.

-          Legal fireworks do not include anything that will rise into the air and explode.
-          “Display fireworks,” or illegal fireworks, include items commonly known as bottle rockets, sky rockets, Roman Candles, torpedoes, helicopters, etc.
-          “Consumer fireworks,” or legal fireworks, include small devices that will not rise or explode.
-          Usually, legal fireworks are meant to produce small sound or visual effects.
-          Some examples of legal fireworks are ground and hand-held sparklers, cone fountains, ground spinners, wheels, toy smoke devices, etc.

So, remember: if it flies high, it’s not right, if it stays down low, it’s a go!

fireworks2The Hook Up
Since the enactment of the new fireworks bill, many local retailers have begun carrying the now legal devices. To get your sparklers and smoke devices, try these retailers:

-          Albertson’s
-          Costco
-          Fry’s
-          Sam’s Club
-          Target
-          Walgreens

Many local grocers are carrying the devices for the fourth of July, as well as temporary outdoor stands. You must be at least 16 in order to purchase the devices, and if you come across someone selling roman candles or bottle rockets, they are selling them illegally. Do not purchase from these producers.

fireworks3Safety First
-          Be sure to only use fireworks outdoors.
-          Always have water handy in case of an emergency. (Hoses work well)
-          Obey the laws!
-          Use fireworks the way they were intended, do not attempt to change or combine them.
-          Alcohol and fireworks do not mix well. Someone under the influence should not use them.
-          Do not use homemade fireworks or illegal explosives as they can be very dangerous.
