Arizona Friends of Foster Children have been promoting the self-esteem and enriching the lives of Arizona's children in foster care by funding activities and education that provide them with the quality of life they deserve while they experience and live through difficult circumstances. Here, AFM interviews Kris Jacober, the Executive Director of AFFCF.
AFM: What does this foundation do on a whole?
KJ: For the past 30 years our foundation raises money to grant awards for children in foster care for new things such as education, social, and athletic opportunities. For example, we will write a check for a child to attend an after-school gymnastics class, or for another kid to get a new bike. Foster families come to us to help them let these kids enjoy simple childhood activities.
AFM: How do you help these kids and raise money for them?
KJ: Once the caregiver comes to us and talks to us about what the child wants or would like to do, we write the check to the vendor of the activity and give it to the caregiver to take to the class. We raise money for children by holding events such as our Volunteer Non-Profit Service Association (VNSA) book sale and work with our budget to help enrich these kids' lives.
AFM: What other special events do you host?
KJ: Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation hosts the Kids for Kids Music Fest at Tukee's Sports Grill in Ahwatukee. This festival is on Oct. 26 from 12:30 - 9:00 p.m. This is a fun-filled Saturday event filled with live music and great food to raise money for these foster children. It's open to all family and friends out there and is for a great cause since 100 percent of the proceeds go to charity.
