Along with April and the start of summer comes a variety of musical performances that grace the Tucson area. From Opera performances, to classical music, to popular modern-day music, Tucson’s urban environment attracts an array of various musicians. Here are some highlighted performances to look out for.

Yo-Yo Ma and Kathryn Scott
On April 21, Yo-Yo Ma and Kathryn Scott with the Assad brothers will perform at the University of Arizona’s Centennial Hall. Yo-Yo Ma is a classical music superstar, who has performed for numerous presidents and has received an array of musical awards. Joined by the Assad brothers, a family well versed in musical tradition, Yo-Yo Ma’s performance promises to be an entertaining evening.

Gluck’s Orfeo Ed Euridice
Arizona Opera is concluding its 2011-2012 season with Christopher Willibald Gluck’s 1762 creation, Orfeo Ed Euridice. This Italian opera has never before been performed. Katharine Goeldner and Christine Brandes will perform as Orfeo and Euridice, two mythological lovers in ancient Greek times. The opera will play in Tucson April 21 and 22.

Hunter-Hayes

Hunter Hayes
Hunter Hayes, a musician, writer, performer, and producer of country music, will be performing at The Rialto Theatre in downtown Tucson on Thursday, April 5. Hayes has toured with Taylor Swift, performed for President Clinton, performed with Hank Williams Jr., and been influenced by a multitude of other country music superstars. Hayes will perform his hit “Storm Warning,” and many others. Tickets are $22.50 general admission.

in the heights

In the Heights
The Tucson Convention Center will host In the Heights, a Tony Award-winning Best Musical. Playing at various times from April 24 to April 29, the show tells the story of hard-working immigrants who are trying to find a better life in an energetic Manhattan city. Tickets start at $29 per person.

BeachBoys3

The Beach Boys
The Beach Boys, one of the world’s most well-known and influential bands of all time, will reunite for global 50th Anniversary Tour. Brian Wilson, Bruce Johnston, Al Jardine, and David Marks will perform together at Ava Amphitheater at Casino del Sol for the first time in over 20 years on April 24 at 7:30 p.m.
