La Paloma Academy Graduate Gives Back

We’re all familiar with how important it is to give back to our communities. Whether you’re a parent or not, you can remember the candy bar fundraisers, book and bake sales, and other events that all shared the common goal: to raise money for school. How have you given back? Jonah Miller, a recent 8th grade graduate of La Paloma Academy, has plans to do so in a major way.

Jonah Miller graduated Tucson’s La Paloma Academy as the 8th grade valedictorian, but his legacy isn’t over yet. For his Eagle Scout project, Miller began the process of building a new “Snack Shack” for La Paloma Academy’s Central campus.

Because La Paloma only has one room with multiple uses as a clothing bank, storeroom, and snack bar, Miller had the idea to build a free-standing snack bar to allow additional space for storage. Also, he intends the freed space to become a library and clothing bank to benefit the charter school community.

Projected to be completed before the beginning of the school year in August, the snack bar will raise more money for the school as it will be used to sell snacks during sporting events and after school.

Along with the help of his Scout Troops and volunteers, Miller predicts the project to be completed in only three days. Miller’s mother will help to supervise, and Miller planned for professional construction workers to help train volunteers before building. He also has already organized for safety equipment to be available, as well as transportation and pizza and drinks at the work site. He already drafted out a plan and is seeking help from donors and local business owners to help contribute and reach the $1200 he’ll need.
