If you thought you knew ballet, think again. A new modern show from Ballet Arizona<\/a> is coming to Orpheum Theatre this fall, showcasing edgy and original works. Taking place Sep. 27-30, New Moves<\/em> will put a fresh twist on the classic dance with presentations by three different acclaimed choreographers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Guests can look forward to diverse works and original choreography from Tony Award-winner Justin Peck<\/strong>, the resident choreographer of the New York City Ballet and one of the most sought-after in the modern dance world; Ballet Arizona\u2019s renowned Artistic Director Ib Andersen<\/strong>; and Ballet Arizona dancer and emerging choreographer Nayon Iovino<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Andersen will present <\/span>Rio<\/span><\/i>, a vivacious performance that explores the movement found in Brazilian culture. Set to music by Philip Glass, <\/span>Rio <\/span><\/i>is inspired by samba and the joy of Brazil. Ib Andersen’s choreography and direction have received high praise from <\/span>The New York Times<\/span><\/i>\u2019 senior dance critic Alastair Macaulay. In 2016, Andersen’s presentation of <\/span>Round<\/span><\/i> inspired Macaulay to deem Ballet Arizona \u201cone of the most enterprising\u201d companies in the country. Andersen\u2019s work for <\/span>New Moves<\/span><\/i> is sure to excite audiences.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tony Award-Winner Peck is one of the most sought-after choreographers in modern ballet. He will present the Arizona premiere of his work, <\/span>In Creases<\/span><\/i>, complete with compact, intense, lightning-fast choreography. With music by Philip Glass, this event will be the highlight of the fall dance season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ballet Arizona dancer and breakout choreographer Iovino will present his work, <\/span>Inherent<\/span><\/i>, set to scores by Antonio Vivaldi, Dmitri Shostakovich and Carl Maria von Weber curated by Iovino. <\/span>Inherent <\/span><\/i>is a story about the legacy of life through dance, taking the audience on a journey and grabbing them by the heart.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ballet Arizona is proud to announce that Iovino has been accepted into the New York Choreographic Institute for its Spring 2019 program. Founded in the Spring of 2000 by Irene Diamond and Peter Martins, the Institute promotes the development of choreographers and dancers involved in classical choreography by providing opportunities to develop their talents. This prestigious honor is highly competitive and the choreographers are selected from a large number of applicants received each year and reviewed by a panel of experts. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
