\"\"<\/a>Adrian Lux can\u2019t seem to leave the studio these days. After all, he\u2019s trying to make a proper album here\u2014an intro-to-out collection of absolute anthems, custom made for clubs and living rooms. He\u2019s off to a splendid start, too, with three inescapable singles (\u201cCan\u2019t Sleep,\u201d \u201cStrawberry\u201d and \u201cTeenage Crime\u201d) that bridge the gap between head rush house and the kind of cutting-edge pop that seems to\u00a0only come from Sweden. \u201cThis is going to sound weird,\u201d says Lux, \u201cBut it\u2019s hard for me to not write single-type songs\u2014tracks you\u2019ll want to listen to a million times. And that\u2019s okay. It\u2019s better to make one of those than three that sound good, but not great.\u201d<\/p>\n

Raised in Stockholm by a former punk rocker and a fashion photographer\/filmmaker, Lux was as restless as his parents from an early age. For instance, when he wasn\u2019t learning how to play guitar, Lux was landing modeling gigs for such major campaigns as the Swedish postal service and Stockholm\u2019s answer to Barney\u2019s, Nordiska Kompaniet. He didn\u2019t take music seriously until he was 17, however. That\u2019d be the year his friends used their secondary \u201cgymnasium\u201d education as an excuse to build hip-hop beats. Dancehall and Dipset were Lux\u2019s two obsessions at the time, although all that changed once he graduated and took a trip to Brazil. \u201cWhen I got there, the music wasn\u2019t what I expected at all,\u201d explains Lux. \u201cIn some ways, it was better\u2014like I didn\u2019t hear samba music more than five times. Instead, everyone was mostly into cool electronic artists.\u201d And by that, he means everything from electro to drum \u2019n\u2019 bass. Not to mention traces of moonlit techno and moody progressive house.<\/p>\n

Without so much as a thought, Lux gravitated towards the type of dance 12\u2019s that trigger long-buried memories and make you move. Songs like his own \u201cStrawberry\u201d single, a sun-stroked mix of massive melodies and laser-guided synth lines. \u201cCan\u2019t Sleep\u201d is just as relentless in its pursuit of the perfect beat. It\u2019s also propelled by a chorus that calls to mind the peak hour platters of Kaskade, deadmau5 and Ti\u00ebsto. No wonder why Pete Tong, Basement Jaxx and Sebastian Ingrosso are all major Lux supporters already. \u201cI want to provoke a reaction, whether it\u2019s positive or not,\u201d he says. \u201cOf course not everyone\u2019s gonna like what I do. That\u2019s just the way it is. But it\u2019s more fun to have someone say \u2019this sucks\u2019 than \u2018well, this is nice.\u2019\u201d To make matters even more complicated, Lux recently channeled his hip-hop roots on a \u201cRapclash Remix\u201d of \u201cStrawberry.\u201d In case you didn\u2019t hear it the first time around, that\u2019s the one that begins and ends with the M.I.A.-approved rhymes of Rye Rye. The crossover cut works so well that Swedish radio stations dropped it into their rotation after hearing it on a blog.
