Keeping much of the same\u00a0dive lounge vibes as its predecessor (Ruby Room), Last Exit Live\u2019s vintage bar\u00a0and antique d\u00e9cor cultivates a funky and retro aura that contagiously spreads\u00a0throughout the crowd.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday night, the venue fostered the sounds of old surf music and 1960\u2019s garage\u00a0band jams\u2013 including the Seattle La Luz. Man Hands, Numbats, and Freaks of Nature\u00a0warmed the stage while members of La Luz swayed with the crowd.<\/p>\n<p>I had the pleasure to sit down with these four ladies, most of whom met while\u00a0playing in other bands, to talk touring, traveling across country without air\u00a0conditioning and crowd surfing.<\/p>\n<p>The first thing the group gushed about is the top-notch quality of the sound system\u00a0and the hospitality of the entire staff at Last Exit Life. The place has really outdone\u00a0itself in harvesting a welcoming atmosphere for all visiting acts.<\/p>\n<p>The ladies first album, five-song EP called <a href=\"http:\/\/laluz.bandcamp.com\/\">Damp Face<\/a>, overwhelmingly spread\u00a0through Seattle\u2019s music scene like wild fire and prompting a West coast tour.\u00a0Phoenix first-timers, the ladies sixties surf-style merges with a feminine vibe of\u00a0soulful girl music to cultivate their own electric waves of beach funk.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing inspiration from bands like The Adventures, there\u2019s a hypnotic pulse\u00a0of catchy harmonies that come as effortlessly as blinking, that when the ladies\u00a0take stage the energy shifts and the entire room is narcotized by that light, poppy\u00a0goodness that drifts through each song all sweet and easy \u2013 and the fuzzy nostalgia\u00a0will leave you spellbound for more.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/aznightlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/27002346\/laluz.jpg\"><img  loading=\"lazy\"  decoding=\"async\"  class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20004 pk-lqip pk-lazyload\"  alt=\"laluz\"  src=\"https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/aznightlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/27002346\/laluz-80x65.jpg\"  width=\"520\"  height=\"421\"  data-pk-sizes=\"auto\"  data-ls-sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\"  data-pk-src=\"https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/aznightlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/27002346\/laluz.jpg\"  data-pk-srcset=\"https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/aznightlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/27002346\/laluz.jpg 520w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/aznightlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/27002346\/laluz-300x243.jpg 300w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/aznightlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/27002346\/laluz-380x308.jpg 380w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/aznightlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/27002346\/laluz-80x65.jpg 80w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/aznightlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/27002346\/laluz-250x202.jpg 250w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/aznightlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/27002346\/laluz-222x180.jpg 222w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/aznightlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/27002346\/laluz-371x300.jpg 371w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/aznightlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/27002346\/laluz-1x1.jpg 1w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/aznightlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/27002346\/laluz-2x2.jpg 2w, https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/aznightlife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/27002346\/laluz-5x4.jpg 5w\" ><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When asked to comprise their dream 3-act concert, the girls were quick to\u00a0collaborate for an epic show beginning with The Growlers, followed by Tina Tuner\u00a0and Bo Dangle to shred guitar, and an Elvis and Buddy Holly mashup to close.\u00a0Of course The Beach Boys would play the after party.<\/p>\n<p>Frontwoman\/guitarists, Shana Cleveland is the main songwriter creating poignant,\u00a0pastoral songs while shredding the guitar, Alice Sandahl\u2019s dance moves behind the\u00a0keyboard are unparalleled, drummer Marian Li Pino\u2019s rhythm is penetrating and\u00a0Abbey Blackwell bass-playing, smooth as butter. The ladies next album, It\u2019s Alive,\u00a0is to be released in October. Though the group describes their vibes as \u201cfun and\u00a0fun-loving,\u201d this album is a bit on the creepy side. They may seem all sweet and\u00a0innocent with their humble, flawless harmonies but be prepared to have you socks\u00a0rocked off.<\/p>\n<p>Literally.\u00a0Phoenix is thirsty for fresh venues to host inspired musicians like La Luz. Don\u2019t\u00a0mistake Last Exit Live as another dive bar with karaoke. This is a hub for talent.\u00a0That rare moment when you see an undiscovered artist live for the first time andthey instantly become your favorite band &#8211; is just an average Wednesday night at this \u00a0joint.
