Another year, another cool new color option for the rough and rugged TRD Pro line from Toyota. Previously, we\u2019ve been visually blessed with Army Green, Voodoo Blue, and Quicksand. Now, each TRD Pro model is getting a more subdued, but still striking Lunar Rock glow. A sort of grey with hints of sage or mint green mixed in. Sprayed all over the 2021 Toyota 4Runner, it looks great! And will undoubtedly turn heads wherever it goes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Combining this never before seen color, Toyota has updated the wheels to be more angular, with a dark finish. Then, they wrapped them in thick, Nitto Terra Grappler tires. Aesthetically, it\u2019s a perfect pairing. Add in a thick skid plate with large, red, TRD lettering stamped in the middle, along with a big roof rack up top, and the 2021 Toyota 4Runner has never looked more ready for adventure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Other upgrades for the 2021 model year include improved 2.5\u201d Fox internal-bypass shocks and TRD tuned springs, which provide a single, precious extra inch of lift in the front. LED high-beams and fog lights are now standard on the TRD Pro model as well. While a new color and a scattering of other improvements help the 4Runner remain rough and rugged in both appearance and off-road aptitude; on-road mannerisms remain sloppy as ever. In addition, interior materials continue to be in need of a major glow-up, as they\u2019ve fallen way behind the competition at this point. Sadly, fuel economy hasn\u2019t improved either. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
When playing off-road, few compare to the mighty 4Runner. With tons of cargo space and plenty of standard driver assists, there\u2019s still plenty to love. When driving around town though, on smooth, black tarmac, where we spend most of our time, overall refinement and polish continues to be in short supply. Still, based purely on its rugged good looks, I don\u2019t think we\u2019re at risk of seeing the popular 4Runner disappear from grocery store and mall parking lots anytime soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
