For a long time, cars like the Honda Civic had the market cornered on reliable, practical, good on gas, daily drivers.\u00a0 In Phoenix Arizona, the primary concerns of most motorists are A: Will I enjoy my commute every day, and B: How much gas will I burn through on that commute?\u00a0 With the new 2012 Volkswagen Eos, the German automotive company rises to the challenge.<\/p>\n

<\/strong>The Volkswagen Eos is a four-seat retractable coupe convertible.\u00a0 Originally introduced in 2006 as the successor to the Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet, the model is starting to take shape and is forming a character of its own.\u00a0 Debuting at the 2010 LA Auto Show, the new 2012 model is reminding many industry insiders of the original and ambitiously designed Concept C car that first appeared at the same auto show in 2004.<\/p>\n

Following the code of the Volkswagen design DNA, the Eos exterior features a grille consisting of three shiny black louvers, each trimmed with a narrow chrome strip. With sporty handling and independent suspension, from behind, the Eos stands out through its reworked, two-part LED rear lights with a fiber optic technology system and redesigned rear bumper with diffuser.<\/p>\n

The 2012 Volkswagen Eos features a 2.0-liter 16-valve DOHC turbocharged and intercooled four-cylinder gasoline engine. \u00a0The direct injected power plant produces 200 horsepower and develops 207 lbs-ft. of torque while delivering a top highway fuel economy of 31 mpg highway.\u00a0 A Direct-Shift Gearbox transmission comes as standard.\u00a0 This technologically advanced six-speed transmission incorporates an automatic dual-clutch system that instantly engages and disengages gears without the need for a clutch pedal.\u00a0 With a special computer controlling the process, one clutch is engaged on the next gear needed while the clutch from the previous gear is released. The results are crisp, quick shifts without the loss of power that is experienced with a traditional manual gearbox.<\/p>\n
