Appropriately, one of the patron\u2019s of the project is Jean Verne, the great-grandson of the French author of Around the World in Eighty Days.<\/p>\n<p>Sailing, whether it be down the Baja coast or a trip across the Pacific, is about navigation. \u00a0Before solar sailing navigation was entirely about the fastest route from point A to point B, with some\u00a0avoidance\u00a0of heavy storms. \u00a0Now a ships crew have to take account of a much larger\u00a0meteorological\u00a0picture, chasing the face of the sun at every turn of the wheel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mission of the skippers will be to chase the sun,\u201d said Dany Faigaux (a member of\u00a0PlanetSolar, the Swiss team behind the ambitious project) when the craft launched. \u201cUp until now,\u00a0sailing\u00a0navigation has involved working with the three parameters of the waves, wind and tide. But we\u2019ve added two new dimensions \u2013 namely, sunlight and the lithium ion battery.
