Anyone who has spent any time in the Phoenix Valley area has made at least two observations, 1: It is very warm year round, and 2: No one is from here. \u00a0It doesn’t take a research scientist or a logician to reason that perhaps one thing has to do with the other. \u00a0There are not very many Phoenix natives because the Phoenix Valley area was primarily an agricultural area into the early 1950s. \u00a0But something changed.<\/p>\n

Sure you had the hedonism of the 1920s jazz age, but there was something different about the cultural shift which took place in this country in the 1950s. \u00a0The idea of the good life emerged. \u00a0People didn’t just want a good time, they wanted the good life, the American Dream. \u00a0Part of the American Dream is to be able to enjoy the outdoors year round, whether it be as an action sports adrenalin junkie, or simply someone who enjoys gardening or hiking.<\/p>\n

This dream has continued to today, and despite economic hard times, or perhaps even due to them in part, people continually ask themselves what kind of lifestyle they want to lead. \u00a0For many this lifestyle includes warmth and the great outdoors. \u00a0KTM, the motorcycle company, has recently debuted a new line of street\/dirt bike hybrids that offer the\u00a0maximum of adventure and experience for the Phoenix Valley resident who needs to be outside, experiencing the wilderness, and getting their fill of Vitamin-D(a lot of sun here).<\/p>\n

The Austrian motorcycle company debuted a pair of pre-production e-motos\u00a0recently\u00a0at the Tokyo Motorcycle Show and said the bikes \u2014 one for the dirt, one for the street \u2014 are \u201cdeterminedly on the way towards\u201d production. \u00a0 KTM says the bikes have been\u00a0in the works for roughly 18 months, and are comparable in performance to a 125-cc two-stroke engine.<\/p>\n

\u201cKTM has succeeded in taking a decisive step forward in the future of the motorcycle industry and two-wheeled motor sports,\u201d company CEO Stefan Pierer said in a statement. KTM says the bikes, dubbed \u201cFreeride,\u201d are \u201ca product for which there is, to date, no real comparison.\u201d<\/p>\n

KTM says the Freeride weighs 90 kilos (198 pounds) and it has a 22-kilowatt motor. That works out to 29.5 horsepower. The motor\u2019s good for 33 pound feet of torque and the 2.5-kilowatt-hour 300-volt battery \u2014 which can be easily swapped \u2014 will give you 90 minutes of riding. KTM says the bike will go for less than \u20ac10,000, which at today\u2019s exchange rate comes to $13,334.<\/p>\n
