After a discussion with my friend Ms S about creating a signature style, it occurred to me that I had read a lovely little tome several years ago about the difference between \u201cold\u201d money and \u201cnew\u201d money. The author explained in detail how the old money set dress, it seems that the common thread (pardon the pun) was the ever -classic neutral \u201cpower\u201d palette. Colors to live by were camel, gray, black, white, and blue with a splash of red here and there. The proper old money dames would never wear loud patterns or overt accessories. <\/p>\n

At the time when I read it, I could never have imagined myself dressing in mostly neutrals, and I would have never I imagined that black would be my staple color. Growing up I had never met a color I didn\u2019t like\u2026and it still holds true when it comes to makeup or ironically paint on the walls, but not for my wardrobe. I guess Grace Coddington and I have that in common\u2026.we love to dress other people but for ourselves, the simpler the better! I suppose those patterned tights from last week would be highly frowned upon by world- class society women, but then again no one ever accused me of being austere. Needless to say there are plenty of high- brow neutrals this season, brought perfectly back down to earth with ultra hip details that any \u201cclass\u201d of girl would love. Myself included. These are some of my favorite pieces- chic, cool and anything but boring\u2026<\/p>\n

I especially adored these little suede booties at Banana Republic. They’re the perfect shade of camel with a darling buckle detail that reminds me of Ali McGraw in Love Story.<\/p>\n

This jacket from Gap is the perfect shade- of \u2013gray and boyfriend cut to go with skinny jeans and pencil skirts, don’t let the crisp blouse in the photo fool you – roll up the sleeves and throw a knit scarf around your neck and you have the perfect week day or weekend blazer.<\/p>\n

Miu Miu did these great little slinky dresses in soft neutral tones that are to die for. They pair well with a wedge heel and an oversized clutch…. but skip the jeweled tights with this one!<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s not forget the magic of a really good bag, this Fendi frame bag featured in Harpers Bazaar is an absolute must if you are looking for an investment piece. It\u2019s an updated twist on a classic carry all and the rest of the outfit is just divine!. <\/p>\n

And this DKNY camel coat has just the right proportions to work with casual or dressy frocks, belt it for a trimmer look. Add a pair of gloves in tan, gray or black (as shown) and you have the perfect ladylike combo!<\/p>\n
