After checking out the final night of my husband\u2019s arts show I raced home in anticipation of the red carpet for last night\u2019s 64th Annual Prime Time Emmy Awards. Unfortunately, I missed much of the pre-show red carpet action which seems to start earlier every year. I can only guess that the events themselves keep getting early so that Tinseltown can get to the after party celebrations. <\/p>\n

Though I was a bit tardy for the kick off, I was able to catch most of the looks throughout the evening. I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s just me, but now that we have reached a stage where every star employs a team to get them ready does there seem to be an overall safeness to everyone\u2019s look? <\/p>\n

I get the feeling that red carpet decisions are being made more by celebrity stylists and makeup and hair rather than the celebrity themselves. Sadly too I wonder if the biggest factor is that celebs know within minutes of stepping their perfectly polished Louboutin heeled toes on the carpet photos of them will be streaming around the globe. That would be enough to put fear of the fashion Gods in anyone\u2019s soul.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

So on to the real reason we are here\u2026 the best dressed of the night. Rarely do I ever find myself uttering these words, but I thought January Jones looked pretty spectacular. For once the hair and the makeup and the dress were not competing. And this time January actually remembered the designers name! Her hair was sleek with a side part, the makeup was dramatic with a smokey eye but not overly done and the dress by Zac Posen was pure drama in all the best ways. Interwoven strips of black chiffon placed perfectly over a sheer bodice that cascaded to a longer train\u2026 finally something to renew my love of Zac and January all in one swipe.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Though I haven\u2019t heard many mention it I really loved Lucy Liu\u2019s metallic number by Versace. Yes, it did look a tad like Joan or Arc body armour\u2026 but the fit, the cut, the lines\u2026 all perfection. With simple side swept hair and a fresh face nay for a bit of drama on the eyes all worked together to keep her look uncomplicated but stunning.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

There was also no shortage of yellow on the red carpet but I have yet to decide which was my favorite. Julianne Moore looked beautiful and covered up in a 50\u2019s era sort of way in Christian Dior Couture and nothing beats that tumbling red mane against a canary yellow gown. But being a sucker for Lanvin I rather enjoyed a pretty and pregnant Claire Danes in a simple yellow strapless. I also thought Julie Bowen\u2019s body conscious Monique Lhullier was quite eye catching\u2026 despite the style being rather a classic awards show look.<\/p>\n

Ginnifer Goodwin\u2019s intricate orange Monique Lhullier was a nod to old Hollywood and looked incredible with her matching shoes and fluttery doe eyelashes….<\/p>\n

But I really have to give big kudos to Tina Fey. Over the years this brainiac funny woman has had some growing pains on the red carpet but last night she hit is out of the park with a perfectly fitting aubergine strapless Vivienne Westwood that had just the right amount of ornate detail to highlight the collarbone. Her hair swept back in an updo and soft pretty makeup were just the right touch to cap off the look.<\/p>\n
