Although it’s still a month and a half away, I am anxiously awaiting the release of the American version of “The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo”. After seeing the original Swedish version of the film (which I absolutely loved) I have been on pins and needles in anticipation of what David Fincher would do with the story. I really just can’t imagine how it could be improved but if anyone can make it just as exciting Fincher can.<\/p>\n

In the original, actress Noomi Rapace who so perfectly portrays Lizbeth Salander with her shorn hair, piercings, black eyeliner and post punk garb was the picture of street smart rebellion at it’s finest. And based on the pre-release murmurings Rooney Mara will do the same in the American version (though I can’t imagine a better performance than Rapace’s)<\/p>\n

Of course with all the Swedish pride in the air how could retailers Hennes & Mauritz or H&M for short miss out on this opportunity to spread a little Lisbeth love? Teaming up with Trish Summerville the movies Costume Designer H&M will launch a 30 piece collection on December 14 with items ranging from $3.95 for earrings to $199 for a leather jacket. The collection will be available in 180 stores and online.<\/p>\n

Summerville told WWD<\/p>\n

\u201cWe put a lot of aged-in washes and finishes, which goes along the lines of the Salander character. In the film, her clothes are quite extreme. They\u2019re really worn down, they\u2019re dirty,\u201d Summerville said in an exclusive interview. \u201cSo for us, it was taking that kind of concept and giving it more of a realistic fashion feel.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nOf course with H&M’s help subtle feminine touches we’re added to soften the looks and make them more accessible. Among the collection are hand painted designs on T’s that blend the Swedish and American flags, along with \u00fcber cool hoodies, studded shoes and slouchy pants. <\/p>\n

Summerville’s incredible vision and focused impressed the H&M team. \u201cShe really knows what she\u2019s asking for and she\u2019s so specific with her style. She doesn\u2019t leave anything to chance,\u201d Anna Norling H&M’s division designer said of Summerville.<\/p>\n

\u201cDefinitely when I\u2019m doing tour clothing, it is stuff that has to be a quick read. It has to be visually alluring, so things are bigger, broader and louder,\u201d she noted. \u201cIn this line, it\u2019s taking small details and working them in an overall effect on the garment.\u201d <\/p>\n

Rooney Mara’s look in the movie was further defined by super star Makeup Artist Pat McGrath and Hairstylist Danillo who chopped slightly under a foot of hair to create the Salander look. Also added were fake tattoo’s and a few real piercings to help Mara get into character.<\/p>\n

The collection even got the nod from Fincher and Mara themselves. \u201cIt\u2019s nice to get her blessing and David\u2019s blessing, and once I showed them the pieces, they were really excited and we placed an order for Rooney so she can have one of each thing,\u201d Summerville said<\/p>\n
