I’ve always been a Barbie girl. Ya, I know, big surprise. This year, Barbie is celebrating her 50th anniversary and has teamed up with Stila Cosmetics to launch a new makeup line for spring 2009. What’s more, Mattel is doing the first Barbie runway show during New York Fashion Week next month and Stila will be the official cosmetics sponsor.<\/p>\n

The limited-edition line is set to debut next month at Sephora stores and Sephora.com. There are four different “Decades of Beauty” cans, each representing a different year of the Barbie doll. The first, #1 ponytail doll reflects the first Barbie made in 1959; The Malibu Barbie set is based on Malibu Barbie which debuted in 1971; the Foxy Doll set represents the 1980 African-American Barbie; and the Jewel Doll represents the 2000 Jewel Doll Barbie. The sets will retail for $40 each.<\/p>\n

Each set includes a variety of cosmetics like lipstick, lipgloss, eyeliner, mascara and eyeshadows.<\/p>\n

And this news via WWD<\/a>, apparently 50 high-profile designers are set to show for the Barbie-inspired fashion show next month at New York Fashion Week including the rumored-likes of Vera Wang. Stila cosmetics is the official makeup sponsor.<\/p>\n

\u201cA celebration of Barbie through the decades will be subtly presented throughout the show, and the makeup is absolutely essential not only to show the decades but to show the mood,\u201d said Dickson. \u201cIt\u2019s a complicated show in a lot of ways and makeup is essential to it. Throughout the last 50 years, Barbie has changed her look quite a bit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also in store is the patent-pending Stila talking palette which offers tips and tricks on how to achieve the Barbie look.<\/p>\n

\u201cStila is a brand which at the core is about fun and innovation,\u201d said Richard Dickson, Mattel\u2019s general manager and senior vice president for the Barbie brand, during a phone interview earlier this week with WWD. \u201cThe combination of Barbie and Stila felt right.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though this isn’t Matell’s first foray into the cosmetics world (the company teamed up with MAC last year to roll out a similar, limited-edition line) I’m hoping the new collection will not disappoint.
