As I sit to write this post, it marks the ten year anniversary of 9\/11 and having just left a photo shoot with an almost entirely New York crew the day has brought back a myriad of feelings and thoughts about the city of New York and our country as it was that day. Though the topic of this blog may be fashion and beauty I can\u2019t help but pay homage to those who have fallen and the many who through their heroism have made it possible for NYC to go on and return to the bustling place that it has always been. Of course part of that bustle this time of year is Fashion Week.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend there were several amazing shows to share. One of my personal favorites for a perfect combination of streetwear meets athletic wear meets fashion is Alexander Wang. As always Alexander is serving up a yummy mix of sports inspired pieces. Previous seasons included a football theme but for this Spring touches of BMX motorcross prove to be bold and femme\u2019 fatale at the same time.<\/p>\n

Wang opened the show with laser-cut mesh bombers flirty and curve hugging, miniskirts and shorts, in mostly black with the pop of eighties neon peaking out. Soon after came ombr\u00e9 floral prints in blue and gray with a Hawaiian flair, and plenty of utility gear including a peplum dress with front and center zip pockets; cargo pants, track suits and leggings. And although the Wang girls are characteristically covered up they still look drop dead sexy. Despite the super slick hair, the smudgy eye and clean glowing skin topped off the sporty looks to perfection.<\/p>\n

Derek Lam must be as much of a fan of classic movies as I am. Watching his looks come down the catwalk has me referencing a myriad of 50\u2019s and 60\u2019s movies in my head. I could almost see Tippi Hendren or Janet Leigh wearing something similar..\u2026sans the leather perhaps. The collection felt like Palm Springs by way of Manhattan with fresh bursts of color intermixed with neutral caramel colored leathers and white. There were knee length skirts in circular and pencil shapes, clingy knits and belted tunics that screamed of chic. And of course I have to give a big nod to the crisp and sophisticated coats and evening pieces as well that looked fresh and decidedly modern. Hair was pulled into the sleekest shiniest ponytails by hair guru Orlando Pita and Tom Pecheux created a pretty face topped off with an architectural brow\u2026 perhaps a tad thick for some, but easily translatable to an everyday face.<\/p>\n
