An initially reluctant Gaultier didn\u2019t want to do a retrospective saying that they usually happen after you are dead, but MMFA curator Natalie Bondi convinced him.  <\/p>\n<p>Based on the photos alone the retrospective is a sight not to be missed.  Though I would say that Gaultier doesn\u2019t capture the regular press that he did even ten years ago, the man is still a force to be reckoned with, and really there are only a few designers that influence culture in the way that he has.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/afm-style-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/22065354\/gaultier2.jpg\"><img show:<\/p>\n<p>\u2028There are six themes \u2014 the Odyssey of JPG, Boudoir, Skin Deep, Punk Can-Can, Urban Jungle and Metropolis. \u2028\u2028The exhibit, entitled \u201cThe Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk,\u201d features 130 pieces from Gaultier\u2019s collections dating from 1976 when he launched his first pr\u00eat-\u00e0-porter collection before founding his own couture house in 1997. \u2028\u2028Most pieces have never been shown in public before, including Madonna\u2019s conical bras and photos by Andy Warhol. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/media.arizonafoothillsmagazine.com\/afm-style-files\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/22065352\/gaultier1.jpg\"><img  loading=\"lazy\"  decoding=\"async\" including haute couture, pr\u00eat-\u00e0-porter, images and photographs. \u2028\u2028Deciding what to include in the show was left to curator Thierry-Maxime Loriot, who perused more than 150 collections and thousands of pieces before settling on the finalists.\u2028\u2028\u201cI wanted to tell a story and show the passion of Jean Paul Gaultier,\u201d said Loriot, who modeled for Burberry beside Kate Moss more than a dozen years ago. \u201cHe\u2019s a pioneer in his field and I wanted all original pieces with a balance between pr\u00eat-\u00e0-porter and haute couture.\u2028\u2028\u201cI also wanted to show how important he\u2019s been in the last 30 years, but also to show how he\u2019s still relevant. There\u2019s also a white tutu with Converse sneakers, black leather jacket and studded bustier from Gaultier\u2019s first collection of spring-summer 1977. <\/p>\n<p>The onetime \u201cenfant terrible\u201d of fashion remains in touch with his inner child, making him one of the most humorous and imaginative creative minds in today\u2019s fashion world. That\u2019s what prompted Bondil to invite the designer to stage a look back at his multidisciplined career. \u2028\u2028\u201cI wanted to create an exhibition on Jean Paul Gaultier more than any other couturier, because of his great humanity,\u201d said Bondil. \u201cBeyond the technical virtuosity resulting from exceptional expertise in the various skills involved in haute couture\u2026he offers an open-minded vision of society\u2026in which everyone can assert his or her own identity, a world without discrimination, a unique \u2018fusion
