Men: If you are having trouble finding your style, you are not alone! Currently at Nick’s Menswear, we are working with the Arizona Cardinals broadcast staff to bring their style up to date. Being fashion forward can help boost your confidence and enhance your professional look!
Below are this year’s fashion trends that men should keep in mind:
- Slimmer, trimmer and more fitted fits are in!
Typically, larger men and older men (over 50) get scared when they hear the word slim fit. However, fitted outfits look great on all men. When we talk about fits, there is the European slim look that is very slim and a traditional slim fit which is more of an athletic fit. Feel free to test out both styles to see what fits your body type best and what you feel most confident in! But lean into this trend, you may surprise yourself that a trimmer look does suit you better.
Pro Tip: When selecting garments, find a material that moves with your body when you are choosing a slimmer fit. It is not fun to be uncomfortable all night. Too tight of a fit could also lead to tears!
How to dress based on your body type: Dressing for your body type means finding the right pieces to accentuate certain features and minimize others. For example, if you have broad shoulders, find a garment with a lower profile shoulder pad or a deconstructed jacket with no shoulder pad. If you have large thighs, select a trouser that fits your thighs and tailor from the knee down to achieve the right look.
- Select the right colors based on your skin tone, the season and the type of event you are attending
As a rule of thumb, the darker the skin tone, the better light colors look on it. However, on fairer skin tones, lighter colors i.e., tan or peach tend to wash out a person. People with fair skin should opt for medium or dark tones.
Seasonality also plays a large role in color palettes. Winter colors would be more of browns, burgundies and greens, whereas spring or summer colors would be lighter and crisper such as whites, blues, lavenders and pinks.
Lastly and most importantly, pick the right color for the event you are attending. Whether you’re a guest at a wedding or you have a business function, selecting the right colors can really have a big effect. Weddings are the bride’s day so no matter how much you may want to stand out, please don’t. Keep it simple and stick to grey, blues or possibly a little pop of color – maybe in your tie. Blue is king when it comes to anything business. Blue is the #1 color to convey trust and responsibility.

- Find a suit that fits your specific needs
When selecting a suit, you should keep in mind what colors you have in your closet; what you need the suit for; and what type of material are best for your climate, your lifestyle and the fit of the garment. Typically, I tell people the first two suits you should have in your closet are a charcoal grey and a navy suit. These are the two most versatile colors, since you can put brown shoes, black shoes and nearly any color shirt or tie with either of them. If you already have your “basics” we recommend a pattern or texture like a windowpane, plaid or textured material.
When it comes to materials, you really get what you pay for. The way I lay it out is good, better and best, similar to shopping for vehicles like a Honda versus a Cadillac versus a Bentley. Why are Hondas less expensive than Bentleys? The materials used and the craftsmanship. This is the same with suits. You can buy a $200 suit that fits perfect, requires very little care, and will last a long time that is made of a synthetic microfiber material, or you can purchase an Italian wool garment with the finest materials and a lot of handwork that may cost $6,000. Price is less important, while fit is everything. Make sure it fits perfect because as we always say, “I’ll go put on my $220 suit that fits perfect and you go put on your $1,500 suit that fits like garbage and let’s walk through the mall and see who gets more compliments.”
I use these guidelines to dress myself and my clients, including the Arizona Cardinals broadcast staff! A little effort in your style goes a long way, and these tips will help you dress to impress!
